resources for and with our members. Our
community empowers its members to do
the best they can for patients, their families
and the profession.
The Delmarva Chapter of AACN was
founded in August of 2003. With more
than 70 active members from a variety of
critical care and non-critical care
specialties, we are proud to serve to meet
the educational needs of local nurses on
the Eastern shore of Maryland, Virginia,
and lower Delaware.

Liver Transplantation
This lecture will focus on the latest treatments and evidence-based care of the patient requiring
liver transplantation. The program will include an overview of liver transplantation history and
trends, changes to immunosuppression, ways to increase the donor pool based on donation
after cardiac death or lung donor. New ideas such as Xenotransplant and Cell therapy will be
addressed.
Dr. Steven Hanish is an Associate
Professor of Surgery at the University
of Maryland School of Medicine and
director of hepatobiliary surgery at the
University of Maryland Medical
Center. Dr. Hanish specializes in Liver
Transplantation and Hepatobiliary
Surgery, as well as both kidney and
pancreas transplantation. He has
expertise in the surgical management of
both primary and metastatic disease to
the liver. He has a special interest in
Cholangiocarcinoma and received
subspecialty training in laparascopic
liver resection.Dr. Hanish's research
interest focuses on outcomes of liver
transplant recipients and those patients
with primary hepatic malignancies and
the use of MRI in the diagnosis of liver
tumors, both benign and malignant.
Moreover, he has been active on both
the national and local levels in
increasing organ donation and process
optimization to improve patient
outcomes.
