ENGLISH 203—SURVEY OF SHAKESPEARE: SLOS AND METHODS OF ASSESSMENT/MEASUREMENT 1. SLO = Students should be able to read and comprehend a play, a sonnet, and/or an essay. A/M = Student will be asked to explain the text on a quiz or test. 2. SLO = Students should be able to analyze a play, a sonnet, and/or an essay. A/M = Student will be asked to interpret the text on a quiz or test. 3. SLO = Students should be able to recognize the influence of Shakespeare’s dramas and poetry on current culture. A/M = Students will be asked to apply themes found in Shakespeare’s dramas and poems to contemporary culture. 4. SLO = Students should be able to recognize the effects of contemporary Renaissance and/or Jacobean historical events on Shakespeare’s dramas and poems. A/M = Students will be asked to explain contemporary Renaissance and/or Jacobean historical events and their impact on Shakespeare’s dramas and poems on a quiz or test. 5. SLO = Students should be familiar with birth dates, death dates, and brief biographies of prominent Renaissance and Jacobean historical personages as those individuals relate to Shakespeare and his dramatic and poetic works. A/M = Students will be asked to provide birth dates, death dates, and brief biographies of prominent Renaissance and Jacobean historical personages on a quiz or test. 6. SLO = Students should be able to recognize repetitive themes and motifs within Shakespeare’s dramas. A/M = Students will be asked to identify themes and motifs by comparing several Shakespearean dramas.
