Your decision to participate is an important one. You will be expected to be a responsible, self-starting independent learner. The high school DOES NOT receive information from the colleges regarding a student’s progress or lack thereof during the semester. Seek out additional information and counseling at the high school and at the post-secondary institution to assure that you are making the best choice for you and your educational future. For further information regarding this program, talk with your counselor. HOW TO PARTICIPATE Getting information: Information about the PSEO program is available in the Registration Guide. For more information, see your counselor and/or contact the school you are interested in attending. Student Responsibilities: 1) Meet with your counselor in Feb/March to discuss your plans. 2) Check with the post-secondary institution to determine deadlines, enrollment procedures, application deadlines, assessments, etc. 3) Work closely with your counselor to be sure you are taking courses which fulfill your credit requirements for graduation. 4) You will need to complete and sign the post-secondary enrollment options form. Your parent’s or guardian’s signature is required unless you are over 18 years old. COURSES AND CREDITS Choosing Courses: When selecting courses, be sure you are fulfilling the courses required for graduation. Full- or Part-Time Enrollment: You may enroll as a PSEO student full- or part-time. If you are a full-time student, you must register for a minimum of 12 semester credits. Determining High School Credit: The state has determined the amount of credit to be awarded. Four semester college credits equal one high school credit (2 trimesters of credit at CPHS) Receiving College Credit: Credits received at a post-secondary institution are on your college transcript and count as courses completed at that institution. Transferring credits to another college will depend on the policy of that school. Grade Point Average/Rank: Grades earned at the post-secondary institution are included in your high school grade point average and affect your class rank, eligibility for National Honor Society and Honor Graduate status. Withdrawal or Failure: The credits you earn will apply toward your graduation requirements at the high school. Should you fail a class, you may jeopardize receiving your high school diploma. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES As a full- or part-time PSEO student, you are still eligible to participate in all extracurricular activities at the high school. You must continue to meet academic eligibility requirements. GRADUATION You are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony, providing you have met minimum graduation participation requirements TRANSPORTATION You or your parents are responsible for getting you to the post-secondary institution. PSEO does not pay for any developmental course work. If you do not test into college level classes and still want to attend, you will be responsible for tuition and textbooks.
