Minutes: Date: September 1, 2015 Location: Cafeteria of Park Lakes Elementary Start time: 6:13 PM Attendance: 115 Acting SAC Chairperson Mr. Holligan began the meeting letting parents know that there were translators available if needed. The meeting was opened with a motion to elect Mr. Omar Holligan as SAC Chairperson, it was approved and Mr. Holligan was appointed new SAC chair. PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE: Ms. Orinthia Dias Ms. Dias also introduced Mr. Wayne Weekes our new Community Liaison at Park Lakes Elementary School. Kudos to the parents that attended our meeting this evening. It is very important to have a good partnership with our parents and our school. - Reminder that Park Lakes is a uniform school and students are expected to be in uniform at all times. They may wear PLE spirit shirts on Spirit Fridays. In addition, they can wear grade level t-shirts for field trips and field days. T – shirts sales are ongoing for grade level colored shirts at a cost of $6.00 Parents we need your help as PLE is going to be taking all payments for field trips online only. As well as book obligations must be paid before field trips can be paid for. The Park Lakes newsletter will now be available online in order to reduce paper costs and paper usage. Please sign up for free and reduced lunch by end of the month. Students will not be able to receive any lunch if they owe more than $6.00 to food services. There is no more morning care at our school. Students may enter the school no earlier than 7:45 AM, there will be no supervision before this time. Due to the safety concerns by parents and staff at the car drop off area we are in the process of hiring another campus monitor. - Very important DISMISSAL PROCEDURES o Please tell your child’s teacher how your child is going home o Any change in dismissal must be received in writing, no phone calls will be accepted. o If you cannot pick up your child at the dismissal time of 3:35 you must arrange aftercare for them. There have been too many students picked up late. IDENTIFICATION – Parents must come to school with their ID’s, drivers’ license or passport is acceptable. If not, we cannot let you come into the building or pick up a child – this is for the safety of ALL or our students. This is School Board Policy. Parents please return emergency forms to the school. TITLE ONE MS. LESLIE CAMPBELL Parents, there will be a meal provided at every meeting. By this time, all students should have received their agendas which are provided by the school. Please send in the student/parent compact to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. At Park Lakes Elementary we educate the whole child through intervention, counseling and CURRICULUM UPDATES KELLY DOUGHERTY Math Coach Reading placement tests are being completed in school to determine what the strengths and weaknesses are of each student. From there, we will tailor their individual learning plan. Please continue to have your child read at least 20 minutes every night in order to increase their reading endurance. The students will begin to check out books from the Media Center starting next week. They will visit the Media Center once a week. They will check out books that they have selected themselves and are guided by their teacher and their reading (lexile) level. During the first week of school teachers were concentrating on getting the students familiarized with the school rules and where the classrooms are located. Ms. Dougherty had the following proposals for the use of SAC funds. Ready Florida Materials $2,600 Classroom Library Books $4,000 Total $10,100 The proposal was brought to a vote and there were no SAC members opposed. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS BUDGET Presented by Mr. Andrew Bronstein, Intern Principal The parents were given information regarding how to spend our portion of the Bond issue money. The choices were to replace the marquee with an electronic one and to redo the playground equipment. Mr. Frank Girardi will be at our next meeting in October and will give more information to the SAC committee and parents present. Parents are urged to monitor their child’s backpacks so they do not miss these important events. Parents are urged to join our PTA and to register to volunteer at our school.
