The teacher will also ask questions while reading the biography. The students will listen to the text and respond to the questions asked about Eleanor Roosevelt. Evaluation (Grading) Instrument (Ex. Point System, Rubric, Checklist, etc.) The students will write a poem with a partner about Eleanor Roosevelt’s role as a leader. Then the teacher will read the biography book about Mrs. Roosevelt to the students and discuss with the students about her while reading the biography. After finishing the biography the teacher will go over the main events in Eleanor Roosevelt’s life and discuss what made her a leader. The teacher will then pair the students off and have them write a poem together about Eleanor Roosevelt and her role as a leader. The students will be encouraged to use adjectives, and rhyming words. The students will talk about what a leader is. The teacher will write down their answers on the board. Then the students will watch the short clip about Eleanor Roosevelt. As the teacher reads the biography the students will interact with the teacher and answer questions that the teacher asks about Eleanor Roosevelt. After the biography the students will answer questions about Eleanor and how she was a leader. They will then get with their partner and use the answers on the board to write a poem about Eleanor Roosevelt and her role as a leader. Teacher’s Lesson Closure/Wrap-Up/Transition The teacher will see if anyone wants to read their poem. The teacher will also tell the students that they will learn more about Eleanor Roosevelt on Wednesday and if they are not finished they can finish their poems then. Then it is time to pack up and go to the bus room. Adaptations for Exceptional Students (Anyone who requires modifications for their needs) Students who need extra help will be paired with a partner that is at a normal reading and writing level. If students get done early they can draw a picture of Eleanor Roosevelt that goes along with their poem.
