South Africa
Children in conflict zones is an issue that has only been around for a little while
but it has got a lot of attention and media on it. From children in Darfur to children in
Haiti to children in Afghanistan, child soldiers are a problem that South Africa wants to
stop. Children in the conflict zones are exposed to horrors that include killing, maiming,
rape, and military recruitment.
With all the media that is on this problem that fact is that there isn’t that much
happing to it. The longer that nothing happens to the people that already have the children
in the conflict zones then the more likely that there will be more children that will be
taken and forced to be in the conflict zones. South Africa supports the Resolution 2068
because it deplores the lack of progress in many areas of conflict like Syria.
Resolution 1612 helps protect children in conflict zones by telling countries what
do to help them and have UNICEF to go and help them. It also involves the Security
Council to help end this problem. It also sends out child protection advisers to try and
help work with the government and get the children out of the conflict zones. South
Africa supports Resolution 1612 and hopes that it will help keep children out of conflict
zones.
