Spirit Lake, IA (November 2, 2015) Spirit Lake Blue Zones is kicking off a “Try It Tuesday” event this month in an effort to introduce delicious, healthy appetizers, entrees, and recipes to local residents. The initiative allows people to receive free samples of various food items at area Blue Zones locations, along with a recipe of the item. Spirit Lake Blue Zones Engagement Co-Chair Sonja Hamm said, “The items are inspired by Blue
Zones and the Plant Slant Power 9 characteristic common among Blue Zones communities. Each organization will make their Try It Tuesday item the special of the day, and allow as many people to taste test as possible.
Some organizations may even deliver samples to area businesses so more people can sample these items.”
The lineup of organizations providing the samples for the remainder of the year is:
November 10 – Hey, Good Cookies!
November 24 – Lakes Café at Lakes Regional Healthcare
December 1 – Hy-Vee
December 15 – Fareway
Hamm said a Try It Tuesday event will be held once each month in 2016. She said, “We hope to begin offering cooking classes in the near future as well, to demonstrate how easy it can be to prepare and eat healthy meals that are also delicious.”
