Teacher: Hello. Welcome to Language Leaper. My name is ________. How
are you? (Pause) Good! Here is our friend.
Beto enters as teacher
introduces as friend.
Puppet 1: Hello. My name is Beto. I am nine years old.
Teacher: How are you Beto?
Puppet 1: I am fine. Thank you. How are you?
Teacher: I am fine. Thank you.
Puppet: What is this?
Teacher: That is a circle. It is round and has zero sides.
Teacher: This is a square. It has four sides.
Whiteboard Vocabulary
Teacher: (Teacher identifies item/answers the question and then
introduces vocabulary words / phrases in context)
Teacher: Hold up the circle and ask Beto to identify it.
Beto: I see a circle. I know it has zero sides.
Teacher: Hold up the square and ask Beto to identify it.
Beto: I see a square. I know it has four sides.
Teacher: Let’s hear a song.

Teaching Context (Story Room)
Teacher: Hold up a circle and sing the following song.
(tune: “I’m a Little Teapot”)
I’m a little circle, round and flat. (teacher – draw a circle in the air)
Having zero sides, just like that.
When you draw a line that curves around
Story is presented as a
rhythmic chant.
And meets itself. Poof! A circle is found.
Teacher: Hold up a square and sing the following song.
(tune: “Three Blind Mice”)

See if you can guess my name.

Students will hold up the corresponding Language Leaper cards as each
phrase or word is mentioned.
Teacher: Hold up the circle and ask the children to identify it.
Student: I see a circle. I know it has zero sides.
Teacher: Hold up the square and ask the children to identify it.

Activity 1
Game: Check Your Partner:
Partner 1: Holds up one of the shapes and asks their partner to identify it.
Partner 2: I see a _____. I know it has ____ sides.
Partner 1: Hold up the next shape and ask their partner to identify it.
Partner 2: I see a ______. I know it has _____ sides.
*Students will play this game again and switch partner positions.
Activity 2
Game East/West
The teacher will say the name of a shape or describe the shape using one of
its’ attributes such as the number of sides. The students will move to either
the circle or the square placed on opposite sides of the classroom.
* Repeat this game as necessary utilizing student leaders to give the oral
clues to the rest of the class when appropriate.

Teacher: What did you learn today?
Beto: I know that a circle is round. It has zero sides.
Teacher: Yes a circle is round and it has zero sides.
Teacher: What else did you learn? (pause)
Beto: I know that a square has four equal sides.
Teacher: Yes a square has four equal sides.
Teacher: Good!
