New Prospect STEM Academy Title I Strategies/Activities for 2013-2014 *A Full Version of the Title I plan is available at the school 1. Provided instructional materials in ELA and Math to support the Balanced Literacy program and SC Standards-based instruction in grades K-5. Expenditures may include copier costs including paper, sentence strips, leveled texts, math manipulatives, workbooks, consumables supplies, etc. 2. Integrate technology into classroom instruction with the use of technology materials, supplies, and equipment to support ELA, Math and an integrated STEM curriculum in grades K-5 in the computer lab and classrooms. Teachers will enhance learning of SC and Common Cores State Standards through CAI software, websites, and tablet based applications. Teachers will develop model lessons and technology resources to support the curriculum and enhance the classroom. Integration will incorporate various technology materials, supplies, and equipment. Expenditures may include computer software, iPads (or other tablet device), syncing carts, educational apps, Smartboards and Projectors, web-based subscription services such as BrainPOP, MyXL, Learning AtoZ, and other software. Purchased may also include consumable supplies such as printer cartridges. Computer upgrades and tablets are beyond what is supplied by the district. 3. Provide Greenville Little Theater Educational Outreach Program theatrical production to support SC and common core ELA standards for children’s literature, story elements, comparing texts, communication, and arts integration. Expenditures will include per student fee for GLT to bring full professional performance to school site for students in grades K-5. Lesson plans accompanying performance will be specific to each grade-level and grade-level standards. 4. Implement Reading Recovery with 1 Teacher(s) @ 1 FTE to provide one-on-one reading instruction for first grade students at risk. 5. Provide 2 Teacher(s) and 2 Paraprofessional(s) to provide extended day program in Core subject area for students in grades K-5 6. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1 FTE as an instructional coach to conduct professional development for teachers including follow-up, teach model lessons, observe lessons, provide feedback to teachers, and ensure curriculum alignment with South Carolina standards/Common Core State Standards in grades K-5. 7. Designated gradelevel and academic intervention teachers , instructional coach, and administration (as appropriate) will attend effective practices conferences and workshops designed to improve student achievement and performance on state assessments. Expenditures may include travel, lodging, meals, and registration. Examples of travel include SC reading conference, Formative Assessment Conference, SC Math Conference, Thinking Maps, Formative Assessment Conference, etc. 8. Create, print or copy, and distribute parent-school communications, such as newsletters and brochures for grades K-5. Expenditures may include: student handbooks, school summary reports, monthly calendars, testing information, PTSO announcements, parenting center supplies, refreshments for parent meetings such as Title I planning (approx. 15-20 participants/per meeting), etc. Parenting supplies may include purchased brochures/subscriptions for customizable parenting documents, etc. 9. Provide instructional supplies and materials for themed parent night activities such as Math Night, Science Exploration, Reading Night, STEM Night, etc. to involve/inform parents on grade-level standards. Expenditures may include consumable materials used during make-and-take Reading/Math activities, refreshments for parent nights, and other supplies to carryout parent night themes such as read-aloud books and math/science manipulatives. 10. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1.0 FTE as Interventionist to provide additional academic instruction in small groups in grades K-5 in ELA and Math. Provide supplies and materials to support individualized and small group instructional needs such as instructional materials to target specific skill areas that need reinforcement in ELA and Math. Materials needed for this position include best practice instructional guides, writing utensils, paper, charts, themed books for instruction, etc. 11. Contract with 1 teacher 12 hours/week for 30 weeks @ $25/hour plus fringe as STEM Integration Specialist to provide additional academic instruction and STEM integration throughout the curriculum to improve math achievement.
