Job Purpose
To support the day-to-day operation of Library and Learning Resources through the shelving and the moving of library materials within the Library.
Main activities and responsibilities
1. Shelving and tidying
2. Moving boxes of library material between different areas of the Library
3. Clearing library material from study tables
4.
To assist in the training of new staff in shelving and related tasks
5. To assist customers in library use to the best of their ability and refer to other sources of help where necessary
6. To contribute to the development of sound practices and procedures which promote effective Customer Services functions
7. To participate in building checks to support the monitoring of the Library and Learning
Resources environment.

The post holder will be required to establish and maintain good communication with:

The post holder will be required to work with colleagues to ensure the efficient delivery of
Customer Services and to continuously improved and develop services.
They will be required to demonstrate flexibility in order to work and contribute to different areas of Library and Learning Resources when needed.
Initiative, problem solving and decision making
Initiative and decision making will be expected at the appropriate level, and the post holder must refer onwards when they have reached the limits of their responsibility.
Work environment
Be aware of the risks in the work environment and their potential impact on their own work and that of others.
Ensure that appropriate risk management processes are operational within own areas of responsibility.

Educated to GCSE level C or equivalent, including Maths and English

Experience of and committed to delivering a high quality customer service
Ability to build excellent working relationships with colleagues

Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people from different backgrounds and experience

Good administrative skills and the ability to work accurately

Ability to move library materials around the library
Ability to show customers around the library to assist with their queries

In addition, knowledge and experience in the following areas is desirable:
Experience of working in an HE/FE academic environment is desirable

Special requirements
Library and Learning Resources staff are expected to take an active approach to continuing professional development. They are also required to maintain the highest levels of security and confidentiality and ensure the integrity of all data, systems and networks used.
The normal working hours are 22 hours a week Monday – Thursday 12.30 – 5.00 and Friday
1.00 – 5.00.
Members of staff may also be required to take part in Service or University activities which take place during the evening and at the weekend, such as open days.
This post will be based at Curzon Library.
Staff are liable to serve at any of the University's places of employment as may be required.
