Introduction to the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard

Your Netid has been authorized and set up to access the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard for your reporting use. This document is intended to provide instructions on how to gain access to the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence

Dashboard, describe the dashboard screen you will be presented with upon entering the WebFOCUS environment and how to exit the WebFOCUS environment. In addition, there is a section at the end of this document that will describe how to obtain assistance should you encounter any problems in the WebFOCUS environment.

Gaining Access to WebFOCUS Business Intelligent Dashboard

To gain access to the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard, use the link found at the University Information

Technology Services (UITS) Data Warehouse Services website. Launch your internet browser and enter the following

URL:

datawarehouse.uconn.edu

The following will appear:

Please note: All first-time WebFOCUS users are advised to read the section ‘About WebFOCUS’. In the left hand side of the screen is a box called ‘Enterprise Data Warehouse’. Move the cursor to ‘About WebFOCUS’ and click on this

once. The following screen will be displayed:

We recommend that all first time users of WebFOCUS use the recommended internet browser and strongly advise you to review your internet browser settings to insure that the browser is set up appropriately prior to attempting to enter WebFOCUS.

Under ‘Contents’ there is a link called ‘IE 8 Browser Settings’. This section will provide instructions on how to review and set up your internet browser settings. Please take a few minutes to review this section prior to continuing.

After you have insured your internet browser settings are set properly, move the cursor to ‘Login to WebFOCUS’. Leftclick this once and the following screen will appear:

Left click once on ‘Login’. You will be asked to respond with your Netid and Password. Enter these items and click on the ’Login’ button.

After your Netid and Password has been confirmed, the screen on the next page will be displayed. This is the

WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard.

The WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard provides you with the following capabilities depending on your role and permissions:

Execute authorized Standard Reports

Share reports with other authorized users

Search domains available in the WebFOCUS environment

Access WebFOCUS tools, such as InfoAssist and ReportCaster

In WebFOCUS, domains are used to organize standard reports and reporting objects into logical categories or groups for reporting purposes. WebFOCUS administrators’ controls and grants users access to specific domains based on their particular reporting needs and authorization.

On the left-hand side of the dashboard, the Domain Tree is shown. This domain tree will list all the applications or domains you are authorized to access in WebFOCUS.

When a domain is expanded or opened, the contents of the domain will be displayed through the following folders:

Standard Reports – Reports that are created for end users to run without modification

Reporting Objects – Streamlined views of data created for end users to build their own custom procedures

My Reports – A repository of an end user’s personal reports

Shared Reports – A repository of a group’s reports shared in a domain

To open a domain, click the box with a ‘+’ sign next to the domain name once. The domain will be expanded and the following will be displayed under the domain:

Determining Your Assigned WebFOCUS Role

Your WebFOCUS role will determine what you are able to do within WebFOCUS. You can determine what your

WebFOCUS role is through expanding a domain and note what folders are visible.

User Role

You will see Standard Reports and Shared Reports folder when opening the domain.

Analytical User Role

You will see Standard Reports, Reporting Objects, My Reports and Shared Reports when opening the domain.

Developer

You will see Standard Reports, Reporting Objects, My Reports, Shared Reports and Other Files when domain is opened.

To leave the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard, simply click on the red ‘ X ’ button located at the top right-hand corner of the screen. This will remove you from the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard and will close your browser session.

Support Assistance with the WebFOCUS Business Intelligent Dashboard

Online Help

Online Help is available that will provide general information regarding the WebFOCUS Dashboard functions, along with step-by-step instructions to use those functions.

Online Help is found in the Dashboard Banner portion of the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard. On the right

hand side of the Domain Tree is where the Dashboard Banner is located. The Dashboard Banner contains the University

of Connecticut Logo. Across the top of the banner, will be the following options:

Logoff | Accessibility On | Tree | Tools | Recent | Favorites | Views | Personalize | Utilities |

Help

The online Help function will provide two options: Contents and Index and About WebFOCUS BI Dashboard.

Choose the Contents and Index option and the following Online Help page will display in a new browser window.

To Exit Online Help, click the ‘ X ‘ at the top right hand corner of the Online Help browser window and you will be returned to the Dashboard.

Provide a brief description of the problem, including any error messages and preferably a snapshot of the error you are receiving.

Once the ticket is received, it will be assigned to either the UITS or local WebFOCUS Administrator for handling.

Someone from UITS Reporting Services or the local WebFOCUS Administrator will contact you to assist in resolving your issue or problem.
