CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES OF AUSTRALIA
How do different texts position responders to accept particular views about
Australian Culture?
Think about the essay question in terms of your chosen perspective:
“How do the different texts (I analysed on my wiki) position responders to accept my analysed
perspective on Australian Culture?”
-
What is the essay question asking you?
1. Do texts have the ability to convince readers of particular views about
a culture?
2. If yes, what techniques are used to convince readers that particular
views of Australian Culture are true?
3. Use your textual analysis to show evidence of the techniques used to
convince an audience of a particular Australian view point.

To P.E.E.L. in each paragraph (point, evidence, explanation).
Point or topic sentence – introduce the main idea of the paragraph.
Evidence – quotes, specific examples from the text (language technique – visual and textual).
Explanation - explain how the evidence provided substantiates and supports your idea for
the paragraph. Make sure the idea you are writing about is related to “how do the different
texts (I analysed on my wiki) position responders to accept particular views (my particular
perspective) about Australian Culture?”
i) To be able to PEEL effectively ensure you have filled out the “Graphic Outline” (A3 sheet
provided) with appropriate quotations &/or language techniques (including visual) from
your previously analysed texts (wiki texts). You will not be able to take this sheet into
the exam but it will help you to determine the important pieces of evidence you will
need to write into your 100 word grid (or remember).
Don’t forget an introduction and conclusion!!
o An introduction should introduce your contention to follow.
o No new information should be introduced into a conclusion. A conclusion should
sum up your main points!
To improve your analysis of the question, consider comparing and contrasting the texts you
are analysing and the language techniques they use.
Finally, think about pushing your ideas to their completion. Higher order thinking!! If you provide
evidence to substantiate a point explain how the evidence demonstrates the point under
discussion!!
