Davon Smith 10/26/15 Going to the Cohen Gallery was an interesting experience. This gallery was made up of very few artist for example Lauren Gallaspy, Hollis Hammonds, and Sara Parent-Ramos. All of their images grabbed my attention but, some held me more. This Gallery opened Friday October 23rd and will remain open until December 4th. Overall it was an entertaining gallery in my opinion. Hammonds, Hollis. In Ruins. 2012 Charcoal on Paper Cohen Gallery The piece In Ruins by Hollis Hammonds was created with the use of charcoal on paper. This image makes use of line to draw the eye towards the house. With the use of line the illusion of space is created and the viewer gets the sense of depth. Hammonds also uses shading to separate parts of the image which includes atmospheric perspective. Gallaspy, Lauren. Once Bitten. 2013. Ink on Vellum. Cohen Gallery The art work entitled Once Bitten designed by Lauren Gallaspy was done with ink on vellum. Gallaspy uses line for the direction in which the dogs are standing. There is also a use of contrast to depict form. The artist for this work also makes use of asymmetrical balance. This pieces uses value for the shadows of the dog that is front. Furthermore Gallaspy creates a sense of depth with the use of shading. Ramos, Parent Sara. Pregnant Month #1. 2015. Paper, Ink, String and Pen. Cohen Gallery This design entitled Pregnant Moment #1 was done in the medium of ink, string and pen. The artist uses the element of value within her work. Value is used for both the black line that connects to the baby and also for shadow in the bottom right corner. There is also an asymmetrical balance to her work as the eye is not generally drawn directly to the middle. Within this image both organic shapes and organic lines can be found.
