The program will run weekly on Wednesday’s from August 10th (Week 4, Term 3) until 7th December (Week 9, Term 4). Initially the program will run from 11.40am until 1.40pm each Wednesday. As we assess the children’s progress the timing may alter to cater for identified needs. The extended program is designed to achieve a number of goals. These include: better preparing children for the commencement of primary school. Placing children in the structured learning environment of a Kindergarten classroom, allowing the children to gain familiarity with their surrounds and feel more comfortable in their learning environment. build on experiences gained either during pre-schooling or at home to ensure that fundamental concepts are entrenched prior to the commencement of formal schooling in 2012. We encourage all children who live in the Parkview Public School Enrolment Zone, regardless of whether or not they are attending our school in 2012, to take advantage of this opportunity. To aid parents who do not have transport, or whose children attend formal pre-schooling on Wednesdays, a bus (supervised by a staff member) will be provided to transport children to and from designated pick up points. Depending on indications of necessity, these pick up points could include ABC Learning Centre, Leeton Pre-School, Leeton Early Learning Centre as well as bus stops in Gralee, Willimbong and Wattle Hill. Below is an expression of interest form for the Kindergarten 2012 Transition Program. Please fill it in and return to school as soon as possible, but no later than July 1st. This expression of interest form will form the basis of our planning for the transition program. Once returned we will contact you with a formal program for the commencement of the Kindergarten 2012 Transition Program. Please do not hesitate to contact the school for more information regarding this program and enrolment for 2012. Below are some of the thoughts of parents who engaged their children in the program: Mrs Tracey Watson (Sunrice Accounts & Settlements Officer and mother of three children). “My son Eligh commenced the 17 week Kinder Transition Program at Parkview last year. The program was extremely beneficial in preparing him for formal schooling. The complimentary bus service was a great way to support working parents as well.” Mrs Joanne Robinson (Human Resources Officer at Murrumbidgee Irrigation and mother of two children). “The extended transition program was a terrific idea. My son Bryce benefitted greatly from the experience. The teachers catered for the individual needs of the children very well, which ensured that Bryce was able to settle into his new learning environment with ease. I am looking forward to when my daughter Chelsea has the same opportunity.” Mrs Brooke Gilmour (Teacher at Leeton High School) and Mr Bruce Gilmour (Physiotherapist) and parents of three children). “The Parkview PS Transition Program helped Molly become familiar with 'Big School', which in turn helped both us as parents and Molly deal with separation anxiety when school commenced in 2011. The extended, in-depth program also allowed the teachers to help us make a fully informed decision as to whether or not Molly was ready for School.” Mrs Susan Cregan (Legal Secretary, Tierney and Dowd and mother of three children). “The Parkview Public School Transition program was a great success and really prepared my daughter Ella for what was to come in Kindergarten. It got her familiar with the classroom environment, teachers and the students in the school, and also helped her to form relationships with other children in the transition program. These experiences in turn made the first few days of Kindergarten a lot less daunting on her and myself as a parent. I would highly recommend the program for all parents who are preparing their children for school.” Mr Ian Draper (Acting Director of Technical Services-Narrandera Shire Council and father of three children). “Having just moved to Leeton and with our son Scott starting Kindergarten the following year, we were very impressed with Parkview Public School's Transition program. It was the highlight of his week. Each day Scott looked forward to travelling to School on the bus and to joining in with his new friends. The transition program was well thought out and ensured that Scott felt comfortable with the school environment, teachers and fellow students.I believe the longer transition period combined with play activities over the term break created a sense of identification with the school and helped to ensure that Scott had no anxiety when he finally started kindergarten full time."
