ACTIVITIES AND FACILITIES SIRIM OFFICE IN PERMATANG PAUH, PULAU PINANG Apart from being the window offering SIRIM services to industries in the northern region, SIRIM office in Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang also houses two main subsidiaries of SIRIM namely SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd and SIRIM Standards Technology Sdn Bhd. The main activity of SIRIM QAS International in Permatang Pauh is in the area of Electrical Testing as well as testing for issuance of Certificate of Approval (COA) for the importation of iron & steel. Meanwhile, SIRIM Standards Technology provides Calibration & Measurement services for almost every industry which include Automotive, Manufacturing, Semiconductors/Electronics, Telecommunications and Healthcare. AMREC IN KULIM HI-TECH PARK AMREC as the national advanced materials research entity has the strategic role of nucleating and championing the development of indigenious advanced materials technology. The centre has a workforce of over 130 personnel and a large number of high tech equipment to conduct synthesis, processing and characterization of materials. Currently, its research activities are in the areas of Biomedical Materials, Composites Materials, Photonic Materials, Energy Materials and Engineering Materials. Research projects that are in the advance stage of commercialisation at AMREC include Producing Maxillofacial Implants of Titanium Alloy through Metal Injection Moulding (using palm oil-based binder), Producing Fracture Fixation Plates (biomedical components) using innovative methods, Development of LIPOS (Lithium-ion Phosphate) battery for EV (Electric vehicle) and other applications, and Composite Pressure Vessel for various applications.
