PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Collaborative Cancer Translational Research Grant Program (CTRG) The VCC Collaborative Cancer Translational Research Grant (CCTRG) is a two-year, up to $15,000 per year VCC investment with the requirement for matching funds to pursue research in the VCC Cancer Translational Research Laboratory (VCC CTRL) that will reinforce the capability of a newly established partnership of scientists, behaviorists and physician investigators to secure experience and evidence for translational research contributions. FOCUS: The VCC CTRL provides VCC members a resource and environment to develop partnerships of basic scientists, behaviorists and physician investigators to initiate transdisciplinary programs. The objective of this program is to translate discoveries from laboratory based and behavioral as well as population health science investigation to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and survivorship. The VCC CTRL is a mentored environment, research facilities and infrastructure to support initiation of partnerships for early staged and established VCC members throughout the College of Medicine, Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University to pursue translational cancer programs. The VCC CTRL credentials basic scientists, behaviorists and physician investigators with proof of concept research contributions to secure credentials for extramural funding. The faculty director for the VCC-CTRL will provide guidance and assistance to VCC-CTRL-funded investigators for development of strategies and experimental approaches and securing required administrative documentation for compliance. DEADLINE: March 16, 2014 ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be full or associate members of the VCC, and full-time basic or clinical faculty who are eligible to apply for independent national competitive research grants. REPORTING: Progress reports are required six, twelve and eighteen months following funding. The second year of VCC CCTRG funding necessitates demonstration of progress towards pursuit of the specific aims during the initial twelve months, a plan for the second year of the VCC CCTRG and plans for publication of research findings as well as submission of applications for peer reviewed extramural support during the second half of year two.
