INTERNSHIP POSITION CONTROL POLICY PROGRAM OFFICE OF NATIONAL DRUG Amistades, Inc. is a non-profit (c) (3) organization. The primary purpose is to provide culturally competent leadership in the prevention on alcohol, tobacco, and other substance abuse problems affecting Latino youth, families and elderly. It is a Drug Free Communities Support Program community-driven group that provides substance abuse prevention in the Flowing Wells area in Tucson, Arizona. Amistades is looking for a University of Arizona School of Government and Public Policy intern for the Office of National Drug Control Policy Program. The intern will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the project, prevention strategies, and activities to initiate environmental policy change. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Intern will support the mission of Amistades, Inc. by assisting the Project Coordinator in coordinating various activities for the Amistades Substance Abuse Coalition. Specific activities the ONDCP Intern will be engaged in are: Address the problem of underage drinking, marijuana, tobacco, and prescription drug use among the youth living in the Flowing Wells area. Assist in the development and regulation of different policies at the federal, state and county levels such as the Social Host Ordinance and Reducing Alcohol Outlet Density. Conduct research, analyze proposed policies, evaluate the effects of existing policies, and report findings to city, county, state, and federal government officials, local law enforcement, the military, and other corporations and members of the public. Assist in ensuring the creation of a healthy, productive, safe, and drug-free community by assisting the Coalition with the implementation of sustainable prevention infrastructure. Status of the Intern: The intern will be expected to complete their internship on a weekly schedule that consists of 10 to 15 hours a week. The internship will be on a strict volunteer (non-wage/salaried employee) basis and is not eligible for benefits and/or promotion. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High school diploma with some experience in social services or community organization. Must be full time enrolled student at the University of Arizona. Proficient in Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft PowerPoint; Microsoft Publisher; Microsoft Outlook, Internet Research, and Social Media. Typing skills are a must. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred Excellent and timely verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational skills Team player, positive attitude, flexible The intern will be responsible to report to the internship supervisor with any and all issues. The project coordinator will then report to the Chief Operations officer, who will then report to the Chief Executive Officer. Firm Specific Guidelines and Requirements for Interns: The intern will be required to complete the set and outlined duties as described in the job description, based on weekly scheduled assignments. The intern is also required to communicate with the Internship Supervisor at the end of each scheduled internship day on completed and pending tasks through email. The intern will uphold to the agency’s policy and procedure guidelines, as detailed in the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Reference Handbook relating to the internship. The Human Resource Policy and Procedure Reference Handbook will be presented to the intern on the first day of internship. A copy of the handbook is available upon request. Amistades’ obligation to the intern will be to guide and enable them to effectively complete their assigned duties. The agency will be a resource for the intern and available for any questions or concerns the intern may have at any point during the period of the internship. Shall they successfully complete their internship; Amistades will provide a letter of support or be reference for the intern, if requested. The intern will be mentored by their internship supervisor as well as by other employees in the agency.
