Celebrating the best from Britain’s Sailing Clubs
Overview
Award-winning maritime malt, Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky, is launching The Old
Pulteney Maritime Heroes Awards for a second year.
The annual awards scheme will celebrate and reward the passion, commitment and
achievements of UK Sailing Clubs and their members at both a regional and national level.
As a whisky with a rich maritime heritage and long standing association with the sea, Old
Pulteney supports maritime activity at many levels in the country, from prestigious regattas
and exhibitions to photography competitions.
This application form provides the opportunity for you to celebrate and reward your heroic
club members in our annual initiative – the Old Pulteney Maritime Heroes Awards 2013. *
Competition Entries
Each Sailing Club can nominate up to three club members who have excelled in one of the
following categories:
Club Service
Is there someone who has worked tirelessly to contribute to
your club, its organisation, fundraising, the sailing programme or
its reputation?
Bravery
Is there one person who has committed an outstanding act of
bravery, perhaps in your local RNLI or supporting a fellow club
member in need?
Sailing Achievement
Here we will celebrate the people at local clubs who have
achieved sailing greatness, at local, national or international
level.
Please note that each club is only permitted to enter one club member per category. Each
nomination must take the form of a minimum of 250 words which states why each nominee
is a true hero within their category.

Semi Finals
Once the application process has been completed, the organisers will judge and select 30
winning finalist from the three categories.
The thirty successful finalists and their clubs will be notified by 12th September 2013. All
finalists will be put forward to the next stage of the competition and presented with an
awards certificate and bottle of Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky. *
Category Finals
Three category finalists will be selected by a judging panel comprised of editor of Yachting
Life, Alistair Vallance and Old Pulteney representatives. Successful finalists and their clubs
will be notified by 24th October 2013. All category finalists will be presented with a £1000
cheque, bottle of Old Pulteney 17 Year Old Single Malt and an award trophy. All three will
be put forward to the final stage of the competition.
The Finals
The Old Pulteney Maritime Hero Award Winner 2013 will be selected by the judging panel
and notified alongside their club by 19th November 2013. The winner will be presented with
an additional £1,000 personal cash prize , trophy and a much sought after bottle of Old
Pulteney 21 Year Old, which was crowned ‘World’s Best Whisky’ in Jim Murray’s prestigious
2012 Whisky Bible.
*Please note that publicity campaigns will be implemented across each stage of the
competition.

Old Pulteney Maritime Heroes Awards
Terms & Conditions
1. The competition is open to UK Sailing Clubs, nominees must be Club members who
are over 18 years of age, staff of or those related to staff of International Beverage
Holdings or anyone involved in the competition are not permitted to enter.
2. Only one entry per category must be submitted, a maximum of three category entries
per Sailing Club is permitted.
3. Entries will not be returned. No purchase required for entry. Incomplete, damaged,
defaced or illegible entries may be deemed invalid at the sole discretion of the
Promoters. Entry constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms and
Conditions. The Promoters reserve the right to disqualify anyone in breach of these
Terms and Conditions.
4. Entries must be submitted no later than Thursday 15th August 2013. The Promoters
cannot take any responsibility for an entry being lost or not properly registered or
recorded.
5. Thirty regional finalists will be selected by the promoters and notified by Wednesday
28th August 2013.
6. Three category winners will be selected by a maritime judging panel and notified by
Thursday 24th October 2013. A category award winner prize consist of a £1,000
cheque and bottle of Old Pulteney 17 Year Old (both of which will be awarded to the
winner’s Sailing Club) the winner will receive a category winner’s trophy. All
category award winners will be put forward to the final stage of the competition.
7. The Old Pulteney Maritime Award Winner 2013 will be judged by a maritime judging
panel and notified by Tuesday 19th November 2013. The national award winner’s
prize consists of a £1,000 personal cash prize, a bottle of Old Pulteney 21 Year Old
and a Maritime Award Winner 2013 trophy.
8. The prizes will be as stated and cannot be transferred and there will be no cash
alternative. In the event of the finalists or the winners being unable to be contacted,
after reasonable attempts have been made, or if any is found to be in breach of the
rules for any reason, including illness, unavailability, The Promoters reserve the right
to offer the place to a runner-up at the relevant stage but are not obliged to do so.
9. The Promoters’ and judging panel’s decisions as to the finalists and winner is final.
No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.
10. Finalists to all the heats and their Club Commodores will be contacted individually by
either post/telephone or email, as per the contact details provided.
11. Entrants and nominees are required to be available for any publicity, marketing,
media or online activity (including without limitation the use of their names, and any
photographs of them) around the Old Pulteney Maritime Heroes Awards in any stage
of the competition without payment.
12. The Promoters reserve the right to cancel this competition or amend any of these rules
at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its
control.
13. The Promoters will only ever use personal details for the purposed of administering
this competition and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without
permission.
14. Entrants are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions when consenting to
the application.
15. This competition is being promoted and run by Inver House Distillers Ltd having its
registered office at Moffat Distillery, Towers Rd, Airdrie, ML6 8PL (“the
Promoters”).
