Skills Officer Job Description Job title: Accountable to: Responsible to: Salary: Holidays: Skills Officer Deputy Chief Executive Head of Employment Service £20,731 + 7% non contributory pension scheme 21 per annum + 12 statutory days Job Purpose The Orchardville Society is a voluntary organisation providing high quality training and employment services to adults with learning disability and Autism Spectrum Conditions living in greater Belfast. The Skills Officer is responsible for designing training programmes, developing training materials and delivering a range of training courses designed to ensure that each trainee receives a range of vocational accredited training required to enhance employability. Training is delivered up to level 1 and includes a variety of employability programmes as well as courses that promote independence and the development of social/communication skills. Main Responsibilities 1. Operational Targets: Support the achievement of operational targets as detailed in annual individual work plans including service user: Recruitment Qualifications achieved Progression to other provision e.g. voluntary work , FE, employment To prepare an annual Training Calendar/ schedule To assist in the planning and preparation for the Annual Awards Ceremony Supervision and support of volunteers that work within the Employment Service. 2. Service Users: To deliver employability training programmes to a range of service users in small group situations and one to one as required. To assess service users skills and learning preferences To liaise with Employment Officers regarding recruitment of trainees to training programmes and trainee progression. To continually monitor trainee progress to enable employment and job readiness. Report any concerns regarding vulnerable adult issues to line manager 3. Training Development To design and implement new training programmes where necessary. To develop new training materials in order to meet the varying needs of trainees. To use a variety of training methods appropriate for effective training delivery. To keep under review all areas of training activity to inform future training calendars. To keep abreast of changes within training and skills development in order to assist the Orchardville Society in ensuring appropriate actions to maintain Quality Standards. 4. Other Stakeholders: Work with families to maximise progression and development on the programme for service users. Liaise with colleagues in other organisations including Belfast Metropolitan College, Health and Social Care, schools and other voluntary sector colleagues as required. Lliaise with awarding bodies regarding administration e.g. registration, certification and standardisation. 5. Quality Assurance Ensure all service user information is recorded and compliant with Orchardville Society processes and procedures. This will include: Compiling written records and reports as required including assessment information, action plans, reviews, risk assessments etc. Inputting information onto Social Impact Tracker (internal database) and EU database (external) Monitoring and recording progression and outcomes of service users taking part in training courses Ensure the accurate maintenance of appropriate records, statistics, and training information in line with awarding body standards. Ensure the accurate maintenance of trainee files and documentation in line with organisation and awarding body standards. 6. Health & Safety Ensure all aspects of H&S are adhered to in line with organisational processes and procedures as outlined in staff hand book. Highlight potential risks in relation to service user safety; carry out risk assessments as appropriate and ensure risk management procedures are followed. Ensure personal safety by complying with Lone Worker policy. 7. Training, Develop and Practice To take part in quarterly Planning & Development meetings and annual appraisal with line manager. To identify personal and departmental training needs and provide comprehensive feedback on training undertaken. In addition to the above duties the Skills Officer is expected to be flexible and undertake other duties and additional tasks that may be required due to changing priorities or circumstances. Skills Officer Personnel Specification Category Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Education/Training Educated to degree level of higher PGCE or Certificate in Education (will need to be willing to work towards this qualification) Training/Assessor qualification Vulnerable Adults/ Child Protection Training Training of Trainers Award in Independent Travel Training. First Aid training Experience Six months experience of delivering training in group situations (paid or voluntary) including teaching practice. Experience of working with people with ASD and/or Learning Disability within a training setting. Experience of working with young people or adults with Learning Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Condition, either paid or voluntary. Internal Moderation of OCN qualifications. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Access, Excel etc Experience of liaising with awarding bodies regarding standardisation and moderation. Experiencing of using adaptive technology to assist learning. Attitudes/ Behaviours/ Competencies Class room based management skills Ability to engage learners incorporating different learning styles and methodologies. Able to demonstrate good communication skills. Proven ability to deliver results. Able to demonstrate flexibility, self motivation, confidence and ability to use initiative. Able to demonstrate good organisational skills. Special Circumstances Current full driving license, valid in the UK, and access to a car or other form of transport which will permit you to carry out the duties of the post in full. N.B: Alternative transport methods will be considered for those who have a disability and cannot obtain a driving license. You will be required to undergo an Enhanced Access NI disclosure check.
