ERSKINE PTA Agenda Meeting Minutes September 3, 2015 The Meeting was called to order by Laurie Tauber, PTA President. (The minutes from the May 2015 meeting were approved). Principal’s Report: (Mrs. Zimmerman) *392 Students are enrolled, which is an increase from the end of last year, 370 students *New guidance counselor, secretary and building coach *Events coming up: Walk-n-Rock, Pumpkin contest, homecoming parade *We are off to a great start! Counselor’s Report: (Mrs. Hall) *Excited to be at Erskine! *Came from Cleveland Elementary School *Working on: *Building PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System *5th grade committees *Ned Show-Champion for Every Kid, Assembly (Pay it forward)--Never give up and encourage others Treasurer’s Report: (Christine Shaw) *Total credits: $8788.05 *Total expenses: $4609.45 *Ending balance: $31,062.42 *Proposed budget for the year was passed out (see attachment—will vote on it next month) Walk-n-Rock Fundraiser: (Jennifer Patterson & Christine Long) *Annual fall fundraiser to promote activity and support Erskine—Main fundraiser which supports school budget but also to get more surface pro’s to be used in the classrooms *Every student gets an Erskine t-shirt *Top Prizes: Bike, Basketball Hoop, and Scooter with pads *Pep rally & packet distribution 9/3—Ersky the Eagle came and kids are excited!!! *Money & packets due on Monday, 9/14 *Money Count 9/15 *Walk-n-Rock event Wednesday 9/16 10:00-11:30 – all are invited to join the fun! *Sign-up genius sent out---Help needed! http://erskine.cr.k12.ia.us/events/walk-and-rock-packets-due/ http://erskine.cr.k12.ia.us/events/walk-and-rock/ Other Fundraisers: *Box Tops (Melissa Higginbotham)—Please earn 25,000 extra box tops! collect and turn in! $461 carried over from last year! October 1st turn in = Be in a drawing to *Hy-Vee Receipts (Tammy Millsap)—Please collect and turn in (receipts dated May 1, 2015-April 30, 2016) -Hy-Vee (grocery, drugstore and gas receipts) -For every $200 in receipt totals, Erskine earns $1.00. Over $3,000 earned last year! -Plastic bags are available at Erskine for collection. *Target (Jennifer Patterson)—1% goes to Erskine if you use Target Debit or Target Credit card. Go on Target website and select “Erskine.” *The most recent Target donation to Erskine-February 2015: $429.50 *Total of all Target donations to Erskine through February 2015: $12,794.58 *Amount accumulated toward the next Target donation: $460.55 *Number of REDcard holders who have designated this school: 41 School Apparel: (Christine Shaw) *Ordering new shirts to purchase, adult and child (Long sleeve, gray with Erskine Eagle) *Erskine shopping bags to purchase *Order form will be on the Erskine website soon *Apparel and bags will be available for purchase at Erskine events, PTA meetings, or through order form Family Fun Nights: (Frea Errington): (need co-chair) *Family events throughout the year: Family Fun Fall Fest, Super Skate and other great events! *Mark your calendars: October 6, Family Fun Fall Fest—Get to know other families, soup cook-off and scavenger hunt *VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Book Fair: (Annette Rosendahl & Sonya Hagensick) *October 19-29, School library *Books will be sold before and after school as well as during the 2 conference nights *Money earned helps library receive new books! *VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Erskine Enrichments: (Andrea Lewerenz-Norris) *After school program in April run by volunteers *Volunteers come up with activities/crafts to teach kids *1 day/week from 3:45-4:30 *NEED VOLUNTEERS TO TEACH AN ACTIVITY!! Washington Homecoming Parade: (Rennie Sarchett) *Washington High School is our feeder school *Wednesday September 16-Washington Homecoming Parade *Erskine group walks in the parade, face painting prior to, wear Erskine shirts to support our school!! Student Directory: (Angel West) *Printed booklet of students names, parent contact information and teacher information *Opt out forms this year—everyone will be included unless they opt-out *Opt out forms and art contest sheet---sent home 8/27/15, due 9/8/15 Other: *School store (Frea Errington/Mrs. Hall)--school supplies sold on Fridays. 5th graders helped run the store last year. Store times are to be determined and it will be located in the lobby of Erskine. *Sign up genius—sent out to all to get volunteers to donate time or donations for events and as a reminder of upcoming events New Business: *Refrigerator for lounge—District will not allow teachers to have their own refrigerators as part of the Green Team initiative. Looking into adding another refrigerator or one larger refrigerator to teacher’s lounge. *Hand Sanitizer—PTA has provided hand sanitizer for all classrooms. 24 sanitizers will be purchased at SAMS, $6.57/bottle. This was approved and seconded. *Kindergarten has requested Boogie Boards as well as Magna Doodles for their classroom/student use. They are requesting 21 Boogie Boards and 14 Magna Doodles. This purchase was approved and seconded. Approximately $500 to purchase those items.
