Summary
The internship positions are in the Exploration & Production (E&P) or Technology organization, (Petrophysics Technology
or in the Subsurface Labs).
All internships provide a short-term work assignment to help enhance your technical and business skills, and to provide
you with exposure to career options in the petroleum industry. You will learn primarily through hands-on technical work
and one-on-one mentoring by a subject matter expert on your specific project. You will be engaged in valuable work on a
challenging project while giving ConocoPhillips the opportunity to evaluate your future fit within our company. Projects
have immediate application to ConocoPhillips business needs around the world.
You will have the opportunity to interact with other interns and ConocoPhillips' professionals working a variety of projects
to learn about additional aspects of the industry. In some cases, short courses or field trips may be part of your
experience.
E&P Petrophysics internships and Petrophysics Technology internships are located in Houston, TX; Subsurface Labs
internships are located in Bartlesville, OK.
Responsibilities
The goal of the internship is to complete and document your project within the assigned period. This includes reporting on
technical outcome(s) (good or bad) and can include making recommendations for further work. As appropriate, working
with a mentor and a group of other professionals to make recommendations for further activities related to specific
reservoir evaluations, and/or develop and enhance new technologies related to support such efforts
Example E&P Petrophysics internship projects include:


Correlation of subsurface data to well performance to discern trends and recommend follow-up trials or
experiments
Development of interpretation methods for wireline log data in a particular well or formation, and evaluating wells
through application of the method. This can range from screening a new exploration play through in-depth
analysis of data from a producing field.
Example Petrophysics Technology internship projects include:


Using density variations as observed in CT-scans for rock cores recovered from the subsurface to optimize core
analysis programs
Developing interpretation methods for well log data (instruments run in newly-drilled wellbores) for hydrocarbon
presence, quantity, and flow capacity.
Example Subsurface Labs internship projects include:

Experimental apparatus calibration and interpretation modeling for flow capacity determination in shale reservoir
rocks

Optimizing selection of reagents to minimize oil/water interfacial tension for application to improve oil recovery in
North Slope reservoirs.
Required Qualifications - Engineering, Geoscience, or closely related technical applicants


Must be currently enrolled or accepted in an accredited MS or PhD program in engineering, geology, geophysics,
physics, applied mathematics or a closely related technical field
A minimum of ten continuous weeks of technical work for the internship
Preferred Qualifications














Cumulative and major undergraduate GPA greater than 3.4 on a 4.0 scale
Graduate school GPA's greater than 3.4 on a 4.0 scale (as applicable)
Previous direct technical experience in the petroleum industry (including previous internships or full time
experience) is a plus
A preference is given to candidates enrolled in PhD programs and demonstrating a capability for collaborative
research. Aspiring MSc engineering candidates will also be considered
