JUNIOR NEWS LETTER ~ May 29, 2015
Hello Juniors & Junior Parents,
CAREER OPTIONS BREAKFAST:
At the June 10th Career Options Breakfast, guest speakers from the community be at the
Career Center to speak to juniors about their careers and share information about a
typical day in their job, educational background and career path. This is a great
opportunity to learn more about a career you may be considering. If interested, you may
pick up a sign-up sheet from the Career Center.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION – IMPORTANT!
Have you asked your teachers yet for letters of recommendation? Be sure to ask in
person, and to ask before the end of the year. At least one letter should be from a core
subject teacher, and if you know you will be going into a math or science field, you
should definitely ask a teacher in at least one of those disciplines.
INSIDE SCOOP ON THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS:
Seniors will be sharing their personal experience and advice on navigating the college
application process. This discussion panel is open to any junior interested in hearing
from seniors who have gone through the college application process. Interested juniors
are encouraged to sign up on Naviance under college visits. This discussion panel will
take place Monday, June 15th in the Career Center from 9:00-10:00 am.
JUNIOR MEETINGS:
Students, if you have not yet had your junior meeting with your counselor, please see
him/her to set up this important meeting.
DO YOU HAVE A RESUME?
Keep working on building your resume. You should include: biographical info (name,
address, CHS info, etc.), honors and awards, work experience and/or internships,
volunteer experiences, extracurricular activities both in and out of school, and any
workshops and/or summer programs you may have participated in. There is a sample
resume in the packet handed out at your junior Plus meetings. You may need to give a
copy of your resume to the teachers who will be writing your letters of recommendation
as well as to your counselor. See your counselor with any questions.
TIP OF THE WEEK: Once you have asked teachers for a letter of recommendation in
person, don't forget to make a formal request through Naviance. Your teachers will not
be able to upload their letters until you do this simple, but important task. Simply go to
"Colleges I'm Applying To," scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "Teacher
Recommendations," and find your teacher's name. Don't forget to include a short note
thanking him or her for writing on your behalf!
Enjoy your weekend!
