BHS PE Leadership Program Application Information 2011
The Barrington High School Physical Education Department offers a two-tier leadership program for
juniors and seniors. The Physical Education Leadership curriculum is supportive of our District and
Life Skills department goal, “A school with leadership capacity develops students who learn and
lead”. The junior leader course provides a comprehensive curriculum of team-building,
cooperative based learning strategies and advanced knowledge in the area of physical education
and leadership. The course also provides an opportunity for peer teaching and mentoring of under
level P.E. students. Junior Leaders train one full year prior to the senior practicum.
The applications are available to any current sophomore who:
* is interested in improving personal leadership skills
* has a strong work ethic
* has a good attendance record
* has the desire to help others learn various skills
* has a satisfactory grade point average
* is not graduating 1st semester senior year
Information about the Program:
* The Junior/Senior Leaders program is a two year commitment; failure to
complete a program either year may result in the loss of honors credit, review
of athletic waiver, or SPUR ramifications.
* A Selection committee composed of administrators, deans & teachers will review
the applicants.
* Participants earn Honors Credit at the Junior and senior level.
* Course grade is included in the student’s grade point average.
* It is strongly suggested students have an open or lunch period during junior year.
* Junior/Senior Leaders and their parents will sign a contract each year concerning
class commitment.
***Participants of athletic teams who wish to be in the class should expect to remain in class
during their season.

Applications are due by Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 3:00 pm

To be considered for the Physical Education Leadership Program,
Your completed application must include:
1. Application: Open & Save Parts 1 & 2 of the application (Open Microsoft Word
document and complete the forms, APPLICATION MUST BE TYPED!)
2. Print Parts 1 & 2 and attach/staple a copy of your yearbook/ID
photograph and turn this portion to the P.E. office (N900)
3. Teacher Recommendation Form (print both pages, fill both student & teacher’s name
and have a selected teacher complete the recommendation. The recommendation needs to
come from a teacher outside the P.E., Health, Driver’s Ed and FCS department. The
selected teacher should return the recommendation to Mrs. Carzoli’s mailbox in the BHS
Main office.
** In order to allow adequate time to complete the teacher recommendation
form, please give form to your selected teacher prior to Wednesday, January12!
LATE APPLICATIONS or INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS
