The V Foundation for Cancer Research 2016 V Scholar Grant The V Foundation for Cancer Research is soliciting nominees for the 2016 V Scholar Grant Application Cycle. The V Scholar Award supports young tenure-track faculty early in their cancer research career by funding projects that are either laboratory-based fundamental research or translational research. The total amount of the grant is $200,000 awarded in two annual installments of $100,000, each. Two nominees from our Institution may be submitted for the V Scholar Grant , if at least one of the two nominee applicants identifies as someone from an underrepresented in science ethnic group (for the purposes of this application: African American or of African descent, Hispanic American, Hispanic or Latino/Latina persons and Native American and/or an Alaskan Native). Among the highly ranked finalists for the 2016 V Scholar program, the foundation will designate at least one of the highest ranked applications from a minority applicant as the recipient of a 2016 Stuart Scott Memorial Fund V Scholar Award. Special Focus area: Any area of cancer research is eligible. Applicant Eligibility: All nominated applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to submit an application: Applicant must by nominated by the Cancer Center Director Applicant must be employed at a non-profit research institution (eg. 501c3, Section 170). Applicant must have at least 2 years post-doctoral (MD or PhD) fellowship training. For MDs, a minimum of one year is acceptable if only one year is required for the specialty. By the Due Date of the Application, applicants must have all the following: o hold a tenure-track faculty position at their cancer research institution. Non-promotable, adjunct, affiliated, temporary, part-time or acting faculty positions are not eligible for this grant competition. o Have been appointed to their first full-time Assistant Professor position within the last 5 years, and not yet been promoted to Associate Professor. o Clinical scientists are eligible if the research institution can demonstrate that it will fully support the research applicant (e.g., dedicated lab space, start-up funds, protected research time). o Applicants must be either US Citizens or be a permanent legal resident in the US. Applicant can NOT already have been awarded an RO1 or RO1-equivalent grants. As of the Due Date of the Application, Applicants who have been awarded RO1 equivalent grants as principal investigators or as co-leader at the time of application submission are not eligible for consideration as a V Scholar. In addition, applicants cannot be a co-leader on a SPORE project or (co)PI of the following NIH grant mechanisms: U01, DP1, DP2, R37, R23. In addition, principal investigators for ‘research project grants (RPGs), analogous to NIH/NCI R01 awards, from the listed sources would be ineligible.
