YENİMAHALLE
Yenimahalle, one of the 8 county town of Ankara, was appointed as an independent
municipality in 1984. It has 64 borough with a population recorded as 625.826 at the last
census in 2010, has a mean elevation of 359 km2. The population distribution as below;
 about 2% artisants and merchants,
 1% of farmer,
 15% of retired
 the rest 82% of workers and civil servants.
Yenimahalle is a town with an advanced railway transport which eases to reach the city
center in a few minutes. Buses, midibuses and taxis are also frequently available. In the
district boundaries, there are 8 grant shopping malls and will have more by the time of
finishing construction, and 10 industrial sites and 3 wholesailor sites.

In the district boundaries, there are several cultural places such as Atatürk Orman Çiftligi
(Atatürk Forest Farm) and Zoo, the symbolic architecture of Atatürk’s House.
ABOUT THE MUNICIPALITY
The municipality has 2200 employees, who has a corporate social responsibility, in the
departments of; data processing, funeral arrangements, support services, marriage,
infrastructural services, law, development and housing, human resources and education,
cultural and social works, finance, parks and gardens, health and village clinic, inspection
committee, cleaning services, editorial, municipal police directorate, animal health and
surveillance, sports center.
In addition to these, the municipality also operates;

Sports Center; inoculates team-spirit, sharing, responsibility and self-consciousness to the
young people by the different types of 14 sports.
Yenikart, has been established to help socio-economically disadvantaged people
with the social responibility consciousness and social governmental understanding.
Elele, enables sharing useless second hand goods and furnitures with the needy ones.
YENIMEK (Yenimahalle Municipality Vocational and Hoby Courses): These courses aimes to
provide employment opportunities, production-oriented jobs, gaining skills and knowledges
about information Technologies, languages, handcrafts, show business and musical
trainings, art & design, personal development and training, beauty and facial care services in
different 10 education areas.
TUBIL is a folk dance group, which represents the Turkish culture successfully in the
national and international areas.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS and EUROPEAN UNION OFFICE
European Union has a supranational structure, which envisages societies get together
socially, economically, politically and cultural. Also guaranteeing security and justice,
personal rights, freedom and offers the opportunity for economic and social development.
Full membership of Turkey will affect life positively with the help of development in areas
such as; environmental, food safety, Free circulation among countries, custom cooperation,
employment and law. As a local government, Yenimahalle Municipality considered to give
support to European Union process of Turkey. Municipality built a department related to
European Union. European Union Office was established in order to contribute effectively in
the process of accession to The European Union.
And also; for cooperation and communication within the institutions and organizations in
European Union Countries. The Department is following up The Center of European Union
Publications, Embassies, the social responsibility projects, and the companies support these
projects. Also, provides benefits for the groups of people- generally the disadvantaged
citizens living in the border district of the municipality- such as; harassed women, children
forced to work for a living, disabled, unemployed and those who have low socio-economic
Level, old people etc. by the application of both EU grants or funded by the municipality,
itself.

Besides this, the department is writing and carrying projects to ensure the Development of
Yenimahalle in social, cultural, tourism, health and economic fields. The department
continues working with the hope of these projects enabling new opportunities to
Yenimahalle.
VARIOUS PROJECTS:
 “BIZ, GENC GONULLULERIZ” – 2011
We, the Young Volunteers
Due to the year 2011 is to be the “Year of Volunteering” in Europe, in order to strengthen the
communication between voluntary groups and to promote the exchange of inspiration the
project "Biz, Genç Gönüllüleriz" has been created. The project aims to contribute to the
establishment of volunteerism consciousness in European level. An Internet web site will be
built to serve as a platform to ensure coordination and data flow between worldwide
volunteer groups.
48 people with in the age of 18 - 25 which do social work in different areas from both Turkey
and Romania. Turkey will be participating with 26 people (including 13 women), 10 of them
will be socio-economically limited people (including 5 women) residing in the district area of
Yenimahalle Municipality. Romania will be participating with 22 people, including 11
women.
 “GENÇLERLE GENÇ BELEDIYE” - 2010
Youthful Municipailty with Young People
Democrasy is basicly, the management of the government by all the citizens sharing the
same rights. Today, the concept of "democrasy", is not just for the government but also,
implementation areas in all organisations where the citizens exist. With the corporation of
Yenimahalle Municipality and University of Bucharest, the Project "Gençlerle Genç
Belediye", shall be questioning the active role of the youth in the administration of the
municipality. The main aim of the project is, to increase the effectiveness of the youth in the
local governments. In this context, by taking the european country implementations as basic
principles.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
•Making Young People have active role in local governments and breaking down the
prejudices of young people, for the democratic world,
•Presenting democrasy in other cultures to young people,
•Debating the effects of socio economically differences on young people,
•Finding new implementation areas for the idea of management of local governments by the
vision of the young people.
•Getting young people come together in common platform of democracy idea without
distinction of any language, religion and race
•To make suggestions about supporting of the participation by debating representation of
the theoretical discussions of democracy and contributing to the development of youth
policies in Turkey
•Developing communication between cultures and building friendship bridges between
civilizations.

 ‘AVRUPA GÜNESİ PROJESİ’ - 2010
The Project European Sun
Under the project; successful students who do not have any opportunities for a holiday from
age of 12-15 were selected from the Elementary Schools of Yenimahalle by the coorporation
of the school anagement and teachers and the selected participants sent to France for
holiday. Two fluently French speaking teachers were accompanied to the group of 20 young
people on behalf of the establishment of communication. The Project was hosted by
Yenimahalle Municipality and the major non-govermental organisation of France “Secours
Populaire Français” and lasted for 22 days. After attending a holiday, including a broad
spectrum of culture and sociability with their peers from other countries, the 20 young
people came back home. Over 1000 of young people from different countries gathered under
the Project and there was a gigantic enthusiasm.
 “KAYNASTIRMA EGITIMI PROJESI” - 2010
Strengthening the Infrastructure of Orientation During Preschool
Yenimahalle Municipality undertaken the presswork of all publicity; including; posters,
brochures, banners.
Also, charged support team for the Introduction Meeting.Fethi Yaşar, Şenol Balaban and the
Representers from European Union Office attended the meeting. The project is still running.

“YENIMAHALLELI GENCLERE AB’DE REKABETÇILIK EGITIMI PROJESI” 2009
The Project of Training Youth at Yenimahalle for Competitiveness in EU
Scope of the project which lasted 4 weeks; the chosen participants take language courses for
40 hours at YENİMEK (Yenimahalle Vocational Courses) and 25 hours at the countries they
have been. They have attended some Technical Trainings, such as Web Design. Besides the
Vocational Education Conferences, the participants, have been in some culturel visits and
events; Augsburg, Salzburg and Munich. They’ve visited and examined some factories; such
as BMW, MAN and Water Treatment Factories. And also, being informed about the
Education System of the countries they’ve been to.
The participants were;
• 10 people to Poland
• 20 people to Great Britian
• 20 people to Austria
• 40 people to Germany
(10 Disabled – 10 Companion – 20 other)
