Job Purpose: Prepare and implement a Climate Protection Plan and Implementation Strategy for the city in compliance with international, national and provincial environmental legislation and policy, and in support of the IDP. Key Responsibility Areas: Contributes to the preparation and implementation of the Ethekwini Municipality's Climate Protection Programme (EMCPP). • Contributes to the preparation and implementation of strategic municipal plans. • Ensures compliance with relevant climate change related legislation and policy. Undertakes the preparation of climate change vulnerability assessment and climate mitigation and adaptation plans. • Oversees project implementation. • Identifies strategic projects or research that need to be undertaken. • Conceptualises and develops sustainable development indicators. Reviews municipal climate change data bases in order to help identify gaps and needs related to the development and monitoring of the EMCPP. • Develops appropriate policies, laws and implementation guidelines. • Undertakes negotiations with other stakeholders around complex or controversial issues. Essential Requirements: • An appropriate 4 year degree. • Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B). • 4 Years relevant experience. Preferred Requirements: • Relevant post graduate qualification. • 6 Years relevant experience.
