COURSE DESCRIPTION
This internship course is an opportunity for a student to form a connection with a
designer or a design related company. It will be a chance for experiential learning that
does not specifically fit within OCADU’s administrative and curricular structures.
Under the guidance and support of an instructor, the student will source an internship
type opportunity with a minimum of 80 placement hours. This time commitment will
be negotiated with the partner so as to best fit both the student’s schedule and the
work placement requirements for focus and continuity. Access to this course will be by
application and limited to students with a 70% average. While under the supportive
guidance of their instructor, the students will be expected to research and negotiate
their own placements.

LEARNINGOUTCOMES
1. Identify and locate practicing designers and design related internship opportunities.
2. Bring themselves to the attention of practicing designers and design decision makers
and form lasting connections with them.
3. Exercise the skills they have gained in school within design work-placement
environments.
4. Meet the faculty-assigned deliverables that reflect their work related progress.
5. Reflect on their work experience in a way that will guide them in the selection of their
own career path.
COURSE METHODOLOGY
As an internship course, there will not be much requirement for institutional resources.
Instructors will meet with students to review progress and achievement of learning
outcomes.

How to find the right placement & set the right goals
How to create a professional online portfolio & CV
How to develop workplace professionalism & interning skills
How to begin developing your career.
How to networking effectively
TEACHING METHODS & DELIVERY
The variety of formats used in the class includes project work, discussion, presentations
and lectures. The teaching methodologies concerned with ingraining theoretical
knowledge through practical experience. Teaching methods and delivery will include a
combination of lectures, demonstrations, critiques, individual and group discussions,
student presentations and in- class work.
The student will be expected to write interim reports as well as a final report. They will
also be required to solicit assessment commentary from their placement.

STUDENT COURSE LOAD
Class Time: Three hours per week. This class meets once a week for a three hour
session.
Prep Time: For every three hours spent in class, a minimum of four hours per week on
average will be spent completing assignments outside class time.
