At the turn of the 20th century many dancers were frustrated with the strict movement
vocabulary of classical ballet. They wanted something more expressive, theatrical,
creative......they wanted to jump with abandon, fall to the floor, roll and (gasp!) not wear
shoes! That's when modern dance was born. This American art form is still unfamiliar to most
people so come and expand your cultural knowledge and have fun doing it! Previous dance
experience a plus but not necessary. Wear close fitting clothes comfortable to move in, no
