September 4, 2013 Dear Parents, I’d like to send out a HUGE thank you for making our first day a great day for the students. We had a couple glitches and a few tears (mostly from parents saying goodbye), but I think everything has been worked out. If you could please send back all the back to school forms as soon as possible we would appreciate your help! You will be receiving a family envelope with a letter from me each Wednesday of the school year. Take time out to read the information in the envelope and return the envelope each week with anything that needs to be returned to school. This is the best route of communication between home and school. It is my pleasure to introduce our 2013-2014 St. Joseph School staff. We look forward to being your partner in educating your children. Our weekly school Masses begin on Wednesday, September 11 for students in kindergarten through grade 8. Return your child’s permission slip to attend Mass on Wednesdays to the office as soon as possible. Beginning next Wednesday the K-8th grade students will gather at Nativity Church in the Narthex area near the large canopy at the main entrance, on the north side of the church. Buses will drop St. Joseph Students off at Nativity church on Wednesday mornings. Parents may arrive anytime between 7:40 and 7:50 to drop their children off. Either myself or another staff member will be at the door to welcome our students. Parents do not have to come into the gathering area but are certainly welcome to do so if you choose. Parents are also welcome to attend morning Mass with us on Wednesdays as well. We encourage the students to sit with their class at Mass even if parents are in attendance. Students in preschool will come to school as usual on Wednesday mornings. If your preschool aged child rides the bus, the driver will drop them off at school on Wednesday mornings. Students and staff will return to school after Mass on the designated school bus. Our After School program is in full swing and is available to our students every full day of school from 2:50-5:30pm. Mr. Tim Forgette is our new After School director. His email address is: tjforgette@yahoo.com. Feel free to contact “Mr. Tim” with any questions you may have. We ask you to send a note by the Friday prior to when you need After School care for your son or daughter telling us which day(s) of the week you will need After School care. This helps prepare for staffing and confirms with the teachers who goes where after school. If you can provide a monthly calendar of days you will need After School care that would be terrific. In the event that something comes up and at the last minute you need your child to go to the After School program just call the office and this can be arranged. There is a difference in price for drop-ins which is $10.00 per child per day rather than the $6.00 per day for the planned use of After School care. If you need to get in touch with someone in the After School program, they have a specific cell phone number which is 920-621-4412. The main office closes before the After School program is finished each day. A registration form MUST be completed before your child can be in attendance in the After School program. If you need a registration form please send a note to the office. We have arranged to have the Brown County Bookmobile stop at St. Joseph School once per month. “Bookmobile Bob” reads a story to the younger students and has a wonderful selection of books for all students to check out. Please send your child’s library card to school so they will be able to check out books from the bookmobile. If your child does not yet have a library card please stop at any Brown County Library and fill out a registration form. Our first visit from the Bookmobile will be on Wednesday, September 18. It can take a week to 10 days to get a library card so if you could register your child soon he/she may have his/her card to check out books on Sept. 18. The library cards usually come with two cards, one to keep at school and one to keep at home. Send either the larger credit card size or the keychain size card to school at your earliest convenience and the teachers will hold on to the cards for the year. Children can return books they select to any Brown County Library or just return them to their teacher and he/she will return them on the next bookmobile stop. SMILE!!! Picture Day will be next week Thursday, September 12. Students do not need to wear uniforms on Picture Day. Wear whatever you and your children decide. You do not need to send any money for pictures. You will receive a proof of your child’s pictures and at that time you may decide if you want to purchase any photos. We do ask that everyone gets their picture taken so we can use it for our end of the year Memory Book. On Tuesday, September 17, St. Joseph School will be receiving a percentage of profits from purchases made at Smart Cow on Oneida St. So, plan on stopping in to enjoy a taste tempting treat and help our school at the same time. Encourage neighbors and friends to stop in on the 17th as well; anytime between 11am-10pm. St. Joseph School participates in Market Day. Market Day is a program that allows schools to make grocery items available to their families and in return the school receives a percentage of the profits for each item purchased. There is a wide variety of items available and I have never been disappointed by the taste or quality of any item I’ve purchased. Give it a try. Look for the order form in today’s envelope. Market Day orders must be ordered online by 11pm Saturday, September 7. Orders should be picked up in the school lunchroom on Wednesday, September 11 between 3:00-4:00. Market Day is offered monthly through our school. St. Joseph School is proud to offer piano lessons and band instrument lessons to our students. Look for the registration forms in today’s envelope. Coach Morris Strain is anxious to get the SJS basketball program off the ground this year. If your son or daughter in grades 3-8 is interested in playing basketball this year please fill out the enclosed registration form and return it to school by Oct. 1. Interested students will be given more information after Coach Morris determines who is interested and how many boys/girls at each grade level. Our Innisbrook fundraiser officially begins today. Innisbrook offers wrapping paper, food items, jewelry, magazines….a little of everything. Take a look at the catalog accompanying your family envelope today. Thank you for all you do for your children to make their school experiences rewarding. Sincerely, Carol Hoard
