The typing by touch method, speed, and accuracy will be the basis of evaluation. TEXTBOOK Skill Building Pro, by Ronal D. Johnson Other Required Items: Jump drive COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Demonstrate keyboarding and stroking techniques: feet flat on floor, elbows at side, arms slightly angled downward, fingers curved, wrists not resting on desk, body centered on "J" key. Perform basic word processing operations to include saving, retrieving, deleting, and printing documents. Students will be able to demonstrate correct "touch" method for operating alphanumeric keys. Student will be able to demonstrate correct "touch" method for operating a ten key numerical pad. Students will be able to demonstrate an average straight-copy speed of at least 25 net words per minute on one-minute input exercises with two (2) or less errors. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION 1. Lecture and Demonstration-Instructor will lecture and demonstrate each new concept. 2. In Class Work-Students will work in class on text assignments. Instructor will be available to answer questions as needed. METHODS OF EVALUATION 1. Assignments-You will all Assignments for a grade. You will prepare all of these assignments in Microsoft Word. Each line and/or paragraph must be typed twice in order to receive credit. Assignments that are late than one week will not be accepted. 2. Timed Writes-You will be given at least six timed writes during the course of the quarter. Your three best scores will be used to determine your grade. Grading for timed writes will be as follows: 40+nwpm = A 35-39 nwpm = B 30-34 nwpm = C 25-29 nwpm = D Below 25 nwpm = F In order to progress to the Introduction to Word Processing class (OT125), you must achieve at least an average of 30 words per minute on your timed writes. 3. Final Exam-You will have a final exam on Thursday, December 8th from 10:30-12:30a.m. This final exam will cover all the information that you learned in the class.
