ALL EXTRACURRICULAR PARTICIPANTS

(Based on 9-week Grading Period)

ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL EXTRACURICULAR PARTICIPANTS FOR FIRST SIX WEEKS

 Students beginning grade 9 must have been promoted from 8 th grade.

 Students beginning their second year of high school must have earned 5 credits toward high school graduation.

 Students beginning their third year of high school must have earned 10 credits toward high school graduation.

 Students beginning their fourth year of high school must have earned 15 credits toward high school graduation.

A student who receives, at the end of the initial 6 weeks of the first 9 week grading period, a grade below 70 in any academic class (other than an identified advanced class that has been approved for waivers) may not participate in extracurricular activities for the remainder of the first 9 week grading period and may only become eligible (after the end of the first 9 weeks) providing that all academic classes show a grade of 70 or above on the report card. When the second 9 week grading period begins, grades will be submitted for progress reports in (approximately) 3-week intervals. A student who had lost eligibility as a result of a failing grade on the previous report card may gain eligibility during any of these progress reporting times if the student is passing all classes. A student who was not ineligible at the end of the first 9 week grading period cannot lose eligibility until a failing grade is posted on the next report card. An ineligible student may practice or rehearse.

Students lose eligibility seven calendar days from the last day of the 9 weeks grading period. Ineligible students’ grades are checked at progress report intervals during the 9 weeks grading period. If he/she is passing all

courses, he/she will regain eligibility seven days later.

Report Card

All students are eligible during a school holiday of a full calendar week or more. When the bell rings to dismiss students for the December or March holidays, all students are eligible until classes resume, providing the student is eligible when school dismisses.

Grades should be closed out for all students at the end of the three-week grading period. A student with an incomplete grade is ineligible at the end of the seven-day grace period unless the incomplete was replaced with a passing grade prior to the end of the grace period. Students with an incomplete grade either within or beyond the end of the seven-day grace period may regain eligibility if the work is made up in accordance with the district policy regarding make-up work.
