Melanie Leija’s Daily Lesson Plan Time Topic Date: March 10, 2011 Procedures Followed Romeo and Juliet Movie Presentations Standards and Objectives Met (23) Research/Organizing and Presenting Ideas. Students organize and present their ideas and information according to the purpose of the research and their audience. Students are expected to synthesize the research into a written or an oral presentation that: (B) provides an analysis for the audience that reflects a logical progression of ideas and a clearly stated point of view; (D) uses a variety of evaluative tools (e.g., self-made rubrics, \ peer reviews, teacher and expert evaluations) to examine the quality of the research; and (24) Listening and Speaking/Listening. Students will use comprehension skills to listen attentively to others in formal and informal settings. Students will continue to apply earlier standards with greater complexity. Students are expected to: (A) listen responsively to a speaker by taking notes that (B) summarize, synthesize, or highlight the speaker's ideas for critical reflection and by asking questions related to the content for clarification and elaboration; (C) Evaluate the effectiveness of a speaker's main and supporting ideas. (26) Listening and Speaking/Teamwork. Students work productively with others in teams. Students will continue to apply earlier standards with greater complexity. Students are expected to participate productively in teams, building on the ideas of others, contributing relevant information, developing a plan for consensus-building and setting ground rules for decision-making. The student will be able to: 1. Introduce, explain, and defend the changes or alterations that they have made in their productions of their assigned acts 2. Examine and evaluate fellow classmates presentations 3. Determine which presentation was their favorite 4. Justify what made their favorite selection more appealing from the other presentations Rationale (*Note: This assignment was given to students before the Christmas break) This assignment will help students in their presentation of a 3 month long group production. While presenting the students will be able to evaluate their own experiences during the production process, as well as explain and defend their creative choices to their fellow classmates. This assignment will help students improve their oral impromptu presentation skills, as well as their group and teamwork skills. As classmates are presenting the remainder of the class will be able to view and evaluate each other’s final production products while providing support for their final evaluations of each performance. Warm-Up 15 min As the students enter the room they will pick up the Romeo and Juliet Movie Project Evaluation Form from the back table. At their seats they will find a notecard for their morning journal. On the board I will write the following prompt in which they will need to respond to on their notecard: 1. How do you feel about your project now that it is finished? 2. Do you think you made a wise choice in your fellow group members? (*Note: Many selected friends from class and ended up complaining about their decision before the project was complete) 3. What did you like about the project? What were the difficulties of the project? Once they have completed their journals I will ask the students to briefly discuss their responses to the journal prompt questions. This will be a short discussion because we must complete five acts by the end of class tomorrow. I will then have students pass up their notecards. Once I have collected notecards I will instruct the students to label their dvds. They must label the dvds with the appropriate act number, period or class number, and the group members names. I will then collect all presentation dvds, regardless of whether they are presenting today or not. Activity 30 min 1. I will review the Romeo and Juliet Movie Project Evaluation Form, explaining how this tool will help them in voting and selecting their favorite presentation once everyone has presented 2. I will review and explain the process of the presentations, including what each group must do before they may begin showing their movie 3. I will introduce the first group 4. The first group will go to the front of the class and take a brief moment to introduce themselves and explain what significant creative change they took on their particular act. Once they have finished their introduction I will turn off the lights and we will view the presentation. This process will continue for each group. 5. (On Friday) Once all of the groups have finished presenting, I will allow them to take a few minutes to finish their evaluation forms. As they are completing their forms I will pass out the voting ballot for best production. 6. (On Friday) After I have given the students enough time to fill out the ballot form, 5 minutes maximum, I will collect the ballots and allow students to open up a classroom discussion over what they liked about each production and the overall assignment. I will also persuade students to discuss what they may have done differently. 7. (On Friday) Once I have finished tallying up the voting ballots I will announce the winning group, who will receive a special surprise for their hard work Closure 5 min Once the presentations for today (more than likely only Act I and Act II) are complete we will conclude the day with the following: 1. I will congratulate the groups that did present and remind the groups that did not present that they will be presenting first thing tomorrow. 2. I will discuss and remind students about homework that will be due once they return from Spring Break 3. I will remind students about important upcoming dates Assessment 1. 2. 3. 4.
