PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER 7 AM WEDNESDAY MAY 13, 2015 SPRING BREAKUP SUMMARY FOR ALASKA.... THE SPRING BREAKUP FLOOD POTENTIAL IS RATED AS LOW TO LOW-MODERATE STATEWIDE. THIS FORECAST IS BASED ON OBSERVED SNOWPACK AND ICE THICKNESS REPORTS AND MEDIUM TO LONG RANGE TEMPERATURE AND PRECIPITATION FORECASTS. CURRENTLY BREAKUP AT MOST LOCATIONS IS EXPECTED TO BE A FEW DAYS EARLIER THAN AVERAGE. ON THE YUKON RIVER, THE ICE IS OUT FROM EAGLE TO GALENA WITH THE EXCEPTION BEING REPORTED IN THE VICNITY OF FORT YUKON WHERE SOME IN PLACE ICE REMAINS. A DENSE RUN OF ICE IS PASSING RUBY TODAY (WEDNESDAY). THE BREAKUP FRONT BELOW GALENA WAS NEAR KOYUKUK TUESDAY MORNING AND RIVER LEVELS WERE LOW. DOWNRIVER NEAR NULATO THE ICE WAS ROTTEN AND SOME OPEN LEADS WERE FORMING. FURTHER DOWNRIVER FROM ANVIK TO PILOT STATION A FEW SMALL OPEN LEADS ARE ALSO BEING REPORTED AND APPEAR ON SATTELITE IMAGERY.
