Cincinnati State Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Fieldwork Selection Criteria for Level II Clinical Placements Criteria Description Comments OTRs and COTAs Utilize COTAs or at the minimum have an understanding of the role of COTAs in practice at their facility. Use evidence in treatment decisions. Must have OTR supervision of course. Evidence Based Treatment Utilize client centered treatment Have at least one objective pertaining to this. Utilize occupation based treatment Combination of other treatment approaches as well but still tied to the outcome of the client’s occupational roles Caseload that supports learning There must be enough clients that the students will be able to maintain a caseload of their own. Supervisor must be given time to effectively supervise students Support for supervisors from their facility Supervisors onsite Supervision must be onsite at all times, when the main supervisor is not available there is someone who will be responsible Would be helpful to our curriculum design if there is a project incorporating this principle. Students must be able to clearly articulate each of the treatments they are performing and it is related to the client Students must be given the opportunity to incorporate this into at least 50% of their treatments. Supervisors must be given support from their agency that does not require them to carry an entire caseload in addition to the students caseload. Site must include psychosocial issues with all clients At least one objective for students learning that describes how they will address the psychosocial needs of clients.
