JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Wetland Specialist (Two year, full-time position – funding contingent) Location: Red Lake Department of Natural Resources, Red Lake, MN Reports To: Water Program Director Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for the development of a Wetlands Program for the Red Lake Band in accordance with EPA Guidance. Development of the program will include an assessment of existing wetland data, development of a wetland monitoring strategy, and development of wetland protection ordinances for the Band. Additionally, the position will work to acquire funding to ensure the continuation of the Wetlands Program. Required Qualifications: Candidate must: Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in wetland biology, aquatic biology, environmental science, natural resources management, or a related discipline with a wetland background. Formal course work should include limnology, aquatic plants, freshwater invertebrates, and chemistry. Demonstrate an ability to conduct and report on field research, have strong technical writing and supervisory skills and an ability to communicate effectively with professionals and the general public. Be physically fit and able to work outdoors, have a valid driver’s license with no recent violations, be punctual, responsible, and able to work cooperatively in a team environment. Possess basic computer skills: spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail, and internet browsers. Have laboratory experience including: Water analysis, invertebrate identification, meter calibration, and standard lab safety protocols. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or 2 years of wetland related experience. Familiarity with EPA and Tribal wetlands and water quality standard programs. Familiarity with operating and maintaining boats, gauging and electrofishing equipment, ATVs, snowmobiles, and a variety of field and lab meters. Basic GIS skills. Salary: $30,000 to $38,000, commensurate with education and experience. Excellent benefits package.
