BUSINESS ANALYST
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for ensuring the applications developed are reliable and meet the
requirements of the organization by determining information structures for web applications on
new development and maintenance of existing applications. This position is responsible for
multiple aspects of application design including architecture, prototyping, testing, monitoring,
and quality assurance. To provide and apply organizational, technical and business knowledge in
the development and sustainability of technology solutions, and enjoy working in a fast paced
environment. Works under minimal direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluation of Technology Requirements:
o Responsible for understanding technology needs as it relates to business processes.
o Analyze and document the requirements, workflows, rules and processes of technology
solutions.
o Recommend changes in workflows and practices to maximize effectiveness and
efficiencies for the work unit.
o Digs deep in the details of user requests to understand the true drivers and then articulates
creative approaches to resolve issues.
o Collaborate with internal stakeholders to document and improve business processes and
to validate and record functional and technical requirements.
o Plans information architecture by studying the site concept, strategy, and target audience;
envisioning user-interface design; and designing information structure, work and data
flow.
o Creates databases from the ground up by determining business requirements, creating
logical models and plan system architecture.

Development of Technology Solutions:
o Present needs and requirements to technical developers in order to build/implement
technology solutions.
o Interpret and present technical details to stakeholders and developers in a way that is
meaningful to all audiences.
o Serve as project lead during the design phase of certain projects.
o Responsible for scoping, planning, executing, and monitoring the development projects
to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
o Implements information architecture by preparing paper and interactive prototypes and
mockups including page layout and navigational elements; coordinating with developers
to integrate site concept, visual design, writing, interface, and navigational structure;
documenting structure and processes.
o Conducts design and code walkthroughs, peer reviews, and produces technical
documentation.

Technical Solution Implementation and Maintenance:
o Assist Project Managers and Product Managers in development of training materials on
the effective use of technology solutions.
o Maintain compliance with System requirements by ensuring data integrity across all
systems.
o Evaluate technology tools in order to advise and assist on optimal usage of such tools.
o Provide coordination of the various technologies used and suggest modifications to
improve services.
o Creates, maintains and updates technical documentation.
o Documents, tests and checks quality of initiatives prior to applying solutions.
o Monitors all applications for performance or service issues.
o Proposes product features and benefits for new and existing site functionality, including
writing detailed product requirements documents.
Development Team Support:
o Participates in regular status meetings with the development and departmental teams.
o Performs other duties as assigned to support the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education




Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Experience in Microsoft SQL Server database technologies, designing and implementing
complex data models and creating conceptual, logical and physical data models.
Hands-on experience developing stored procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities








Solid knowledge of developing and documenting work requirements, rules, workflows and
reports for technology-based solution projects.
Ability to assess data from a variety of sources; identify trends and issues to recommend action.
Ability to problem-solve and prioritize effectively.
Experience in translating technical terminology and processes for various stakeholders for
solution selection, development and/or implementation.
Demonstrated success in process improvement and implementing solutions, while ensuring the
integrity of applications/data/internal controls.
Skilled in negotiating decision processes and leading the progress of projects.
Ability to communicate effectively, embrace change, and maintain a high level of customer
service/satisfaction.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to ensure successful outcomes.
