OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Head of Finance and Data Analysis is responsible for managing AIUK’s finances, supporter
and financial data and systems, and the finance and data analysis functions in a way that
supports and advances the organisation’s objectives.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
1.1
Provide advice and information to the Senior Management Team and colleagues on
areas within the scope of this role. This will include legal developments, best practice
and current developments and thinking in the finance, accounting and data management
field. It will also include opportunities to make more effective use of our resources,
including measurement systems which demonstrate efficient systems of financial
management, reporting and effective use of financial resources, including ways to
increase income, and the potential of new technology to achieve AIUK’s financial
objectives
1.2
Acting as part of the Leadership Team of AIUK, to contribute to the development and
implementation of AIUK’s Strategic and Annual Plans, ensure collegiate team working,
participate in Leadership Team meetings and activities, and effectively role-model and
implement internal processes, management practices, and AIUK values.
Financial Management
2.1
Prepare the year-end accounts for all AIUK entities, together with the organisation of the
annual audit.
2.2
Produce regular internal management accounts and reports, including commentary and
analysis, for presentation to the Senior Management Team, Board, Trustees, Finance
Sub Committee (FSC) and budget holders.
2.3
Ensure the presentation of key financial information to the public and supporters is clear,
transparent and appropriate.

2.4
Manage the production of standardised reports to Amnesty’s International Secretariat.
2.5
Ensure that procedures, processes, and strict internal controls are in place throughout
AIUK to minimise the risk of fraud and error, and to facilitate efficient and appropriate
reporting
2.6
Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and legislation with respect to Company
Law, taxation (direct and indirect) and Charity legislation, Data Protection, and any other
relevant legal requirements.
2.7
Develop procedures, processes and structures such that efficiency is promoted within
the organisation, and the Finance and Data Analysis Teams in particular, and that best
practice is identified and implemented within their processes.
2.8
Oversee provision of financial training to non-finance staff within AIUK particularly in
relation to budgetary control, and also training to staff where needed on the supporter
database system.
2.9
Support the Management Accountant where needed in relation to the management
reporting and budgetary functions.
2.10
Vet significant tenders/contracts and conduct due diligence enquiries where needed.
2.11
Ensure the timely and accurate submission of the direct debit and gift aid claims.
2.12
Lead on the development of statistical forecasting models to predict income flows on
Amnesty’s key revenue streams.
Data Management
3.1
Oversee data selections for communications; and analyse and interpret the supporter
and financial data in order to make recommendations on strategy development. To be
responsible for the production of data selections and analysis for campaigning and
fundraising activity as appropriate.
3.2
Act as the principal gatekeeper for supporter data, and ensure that supporter and
marketing data is captured into and extracted from the supporter database in the way to
best progress AIUK’s objectives whilst complying with legislation and sector practice.
3.3
Allocate and maintenance of all corporate reference data required to monitor the
effectiveness of marketing activities and enable the efficient integration of key systems
(supporter database, website and finance systems).
3.4
Identify and coordinate AIUK’s database development needs and liaise with the IT Team
and/or external suppliers in order to schedule and supervise their implementation.
3.5
Oversee the provision of data analysis and insight based on analysis of financial and
other performance of AIUK fundraising and campaigning initiatives and an
understanding of supporter behavior. Liaise with the Communications Planner to
produce a monthly insight report.
3.6
Ensure that the day-to-day processing of transactions within the department are
processed in a timely and accurate manner and that the requirements of stakeholders
are met.

3.7
Develop, monitor and implement finance and data analysis systems and databases as
necessary and ensure all records are accurately maintained.
3.8
Ensure that all partner fulfillment agencies manage and process Amnesty’s data in line
with our standards and protocols and our supporter database is updated from all
outsourced data fulfillment sources.
3.9
Oversee the development of regression models and targeting tolls to improve the lifetime
value yielded by supporter communications.
3.10
Establish processes to screen, clean and de-duplicate the database in order to have a
system that complies with data protection requirements and improves our mass
communication activities.
3.11
Act as the Data Protection Officer for AIUK.
Governance & Planning
4.1
To be proactive in promoting excellent risk management strategies across the
organisation, manage the risk register and organise regular reviews.
4.2
To support the organisation’s business planning finance processes, playing a leading
role in dovetailing with the budget setting process.
4.3
To keep abreast of developments in governance best practice in the charity sector and
recommend changes within AIUK as appropriate
Resource Management
5.1
Lead, manage, coach and motivate the Finance and Data Managment staff and
volunteers, in particular the direct reports to this post including providing technical
support and training to the team in terms of accounting knowledge and reporting, and
support on finance IT systems including liaison with the IT team where necessary.
5.2
Develop and construct the Finance Team budget and Data Management Team budget
and monitor performance against actual throughout the year; including monthly
reforecasts.
5.3
Manage the health and safety of the staff and volunteers for which the post has
responsibility for, including conducting risk assessments as appropriate, and ensuring
they have access to, and participate in, appropriate instruction, training and supervision.
External Relationships
6.1
Develop and manage appropriate and productive relationships with external partners
and suppliers to ensure quality, value for money, and maximum benefit for AIUK,
including AIUK’s bankers ensuring efficient service from them and cost-effective banking
arrangements, and auditors, data agencies, tax advisors and other relevant external
consultants.
6.2
Represent, and act as advocate for, AIUK at relevant forums and organisations and
ensure the organisation’s values and aims are effectively communicated and
represented.

6.3
Together with the Director of Corporate Services, represent the UK Section’s interests in
international discussions on matters of finance within the Amnesty movement.
6.4
Attend and make presentations at meetings of the FSC and Trustees and attend the
Section’s AGM and Finance Working Party if required.
6.5
Deputise for the Director of Corporate Services at meetings of the Board, Charity
Trustees and SMT as required.
Other
7.1
Take responsibility for their own health, safety and welfare, comply with AIUK H&S
policy and procedures, and not act in any way that compromises the safety of
themselves, colleagues or the public.
7.2
Deliver all aspects of this job description in accordance with AIUK’s Equal and Diversity

7.3
Undertake any relevant duties or projects delegated by line management which are in
line with the overall responsibilities of the post.

To act as deputy to the Director of Corporate Services when required.

Significant and successful management of a either a finance and/or data

Significant experience of producing analysis from databases to inform
