Description of Agricultural sector Index Number 1. Data Source: Since 2001 index number has been considered to be one of the most important statistical indicators that measure changes in the indicators of different economic activities calculated according to a fixed base to prepare plans for enhancing these activities. Directorate of Index Numbers prepared this report which includes index numbers of agricultural production and field prices of agricultural products excluding Kurdistan Region taking 2007 as a base year . 2. Methodology Reports of Directorate of Agricultural Statistics; reports of vegetable production, livestock and fishery as well as field prices of agricultural products are adopted to calculate index numbers in August of each year while prices and quantities of hides, hair and wool are taken from Directorate of National Accounts. Work Duration: approximately one month. 3. Concepts and Definitions ( Indicators): Agricultural Products Basket Commodity basket includes 84 agricultural products classified and tabulated into 19 groups , 12 of which for vegetable products,6 for livestock products and 1 for fishing : Vegetable Products Groups Include 68 vegetable products classified into groups of cereals, oil seeds, tubers and pulbs, legumes, crops used for industrial purposes, vegetables, citrus, stone fruits, other fruits, dates, forage crops and accidental products. Livestock Groups Include 15 products classified into groups of red meat, eggs, chicken meat, milk, hides and wool. Fishery group Include only sea and river fishing. 4. Method of Calculation Index numbers of production quantities were calculated according to Lasperes Formula weighted by 2007 base year as follows: Q Q Q W 100 W 1 0 Where: IQ : Index number of agricultural production quantities Q1: Quantity of certain product in the comparison year Q0: Quantity of certain product in the base year W: Weight of product in the base year Lasperes formula is also used to calculate the index numbers of agricultural products field prices as follows: 5. W 100 W 1 0 Where: Ip: Index number of agricultural products field prices P1: Field price of certain product in the comparison year P0: Field price of certain product in the base year W: Weight of product in the base year Noting that the weight (W) is calculated for each product by dividing its production value to the sum of production value of all agricultural production in the base year 2007 where both formula above mentioned are used to calculate the index numbers of production quantities and field prices of products main and sub groups as well as the general index number of agricultural production. 5. Classifications: No classifications 6. Data Availability Index numbers data of agricultural sector are disseminated at Iraq level. The report has been annually produced since 2001. Data are available on CSO web in PDF and Excel format.
