Notes from a Scholar Session
Scholar 1
Reading comprehension is improving. (moving up to level C).
Taylor is concerned about writing. Will check in with K team to see what
Emma was able to do at the end of last year and then show Emma
Scholar 2
Not responding when asked questions. Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 will start
teaching sentence starters to figure out what is causing the lack of
response:
-I think maybe
-I don't know the answer
-Can you repeat the question?
Scholar 3
Consent for testing went home. Teacher 3 will follow up with mom to make
sure it gets signed and returned promptly.
Scholar 4
having trouble giving answers orally. Unclear if it is processing or LEP
issue
Presenting very similarly to his siblings where the issue seems to be
learned helplessness
For now Teacher 3 and Teacher 4 will treat as learned behavior. Special
Education Teacher will conduct some informal processing activities.
Team will discuss again at the next scholar session.
Listening Comprehension
to promote listening comprehension teachers in both classes will increase
asking scholars to rephrase things in their own words, checks for
understanding that require re-explaining concepts, and will incorporate
games into morning meeting and ESL that encourage comprehending
multiple sentences/steps.

-simon says will multiple steps
-my favorite _____ is.... building ont eh person before you game
-tell a story and people have to add on

-have a mystery object. One person gives clues, the others have to guess
what the object is based on the clues
Next Steps:
Teacher 1
Begin teaching and using sentence starters with AH
get a writing sample of ES from Kindergarten
incorporate listening comprehension games and tweaks into instruction
Teacher 2
Begin teaching and using sentence starters with AH
Teacher 3
Change tactic with YR
follow up about HL consent form
Teacher 4
