(September 3, 2015) — The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) has recently completed three projects, each of which addresses a different aspect of environmentally sustainable electronics manufacturing. The project teams will report results and findings of their efforts at the upcoming Emerging Green 2015 conference (September 22-24; Portland, Oregon). The iNEMI session, entitled “A Roadmap for the Environment,” is scheduled on Thursday, September 24, 8:45-10:15 a.m., and will highlight the following projects: Alternative Materials Assessment — building industry use of identified assessment tools that have been determined to provide the “best” alternative assessment. Metals Recycling — looks at the state of metals recycling and what the future holds for recycling of more and different metals in a changing economic picture. Repair and Recycling Metrics — an evaluation of the existing methodologies for calculating quantifiable metrics for product-level repair and recycling. Also on the conference agenda, Bob Pfahl, PhD, senior consultant for iNEMI, will be presenting in the “Impact of Emerging Technologies on Green Electronics” session (Wednesday, September 23, 9:00-10:30 a.m.). “iNEMI has been and continues to be actively involved in the effort to improve sustainability and reduce environmental impact of electronics manufacturing,” says iNEMI CEO Bill Bader. “These three recently completed projects represent a solid body of work that will help move the industry forward, and they also point toward additional work to be undertaken.” (more) iNEMI Session at Emerging Green 2015 / page 2 About iNEMI The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative’s mission is to forecast and accelerate improvements in the electronics manufacturing industry for a sustainable future. This industry-led consortium is made up of approximately 100 manufacturers, suppliers, industry associations and consortia, government agencies and universities. iNEMI roadmaps the needs of the electronics industry, identifies gaps in the technology infrastructure, establishes implementation projects to eliminate these gaps (both business and technical), and stimulates standards activities to speed the introduction of new technologies. The consortium also works with government agencies, universities and other funding agencies to set priorities for future industry needs and R&D initiatives. iNEMI is based in Herndon, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.), with regional offices in Shanghai, China; Limerick, Ireland; and Tokyo, Japan.
