The Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department (OCSWMD) and the Lee County
Office of Solid Waste Management are planning an Earth Day Fair & Electronics Recycling Event on April 18, 2015 from
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Elementary School parking lot, 1450 20th Street in Rochelle. We are looking for
co-sponsors, participants and volunteers to help promote and implement this event.
Our vision of this event is to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Earth Day by providing an event where Ogle & Lee County
residents can go to get information about various environmental topics as well as an outlet for people to recycle their
electronics and other items. So far, we have interest from WRHL Radio, First National Bank of Rochelle (paper
shredding), Lee County Office of Solid Waste Management and Secure Recycling Services (electronics recycling), Serenity
Hospice (textile/purse/belt recycling), and RockRiverSweep.org (free hardwood saplings).
Would your organization be interested in having a booth at this event? It could be a great opportunity to celebrate
Earth Day and promote conservation, recycling, and sustainable living habits. Participants will need to provide their own
tables, chairs & canopy (if desired) for their booth.
The OCSWMD will provide advertising in the local papers and on the radio (with the help of WRHL) to promote the
event. Our last electronics recycling event in Rochelle had around 450 vehicles participating. We expect at least that
many at this event.
Please help make this Earth Day Fair & Electronics Recycling Event a success by participating in whatever way possible. If
your group is not able to host a booth at the event, we are also looking for individual volunteers to help direct traffic,
survey participants, and to help with unloading electronics from vehicles.
