Points System
Points will be available to check weekly at the pool. A cumulative point document will be posted OR emailed out at
the conclusion of every month.
Swimmers who attend non-high school, structured practices with USA-Certified swimming coaches or USWP-Certified
coaches will receive 2 points each for those practices. Swimmers will need to fill out a form listing the dates of
practices attended, and the USAS or USWP coach MUST sign the form. Points will only be given for forms turned in by
the Monday of the following week. Swimmers will not receive points if form is received after Monday of the following
week. If on vacation a swimmer participates in a full-length practice with another high school or club team, the
swimmer's parent can provide verification of that practice by filling out the form above. Private sessions with nonUSAS or USWP coaches, practices in hotel pools or sessions done "on your own" do not count for points.
Club practices may not take the place of required practices.
It is the responsibility of the swimmer to check and make sure that all of his/her practices and meets have been
accounted. All errors must be brought up to the coaches by the Monday following the week in question. After that,
your points for that week will be permanent. The maximum number of practice points possible in any given week is
12 points.
We will use points to determine who is able to participate in meets, who goes on Travel meets or earns a Varsity
Letter.
Remember that a swimmer must have 80% practice attendance during the week of a meet in order to participate in
the meet. This is for the overall safety and progress of the swimmer. Friday meet days do not count toward the 80%.
If a swimmer will miss an evening practice during a week on which a meet is held on Friday, that swimmer may obtain
approval (beforehand) to attend a club practice on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday. This is applicable during the
weeks of the travel meet and Region.

Practice Attendance – 2 points each practice
 2 points = on time to practice
 No points will be awarded for anyone who arrives late (if we have started dryland, you are
late) or leaves early. These practices will still count for the 80% meet attendance
requirement.
 1 point for school-excused late, IF pre-approved (for example, a concert that makes you late
or leave early, which you have previously cleared with coaches).
*email shayne.beckstrand@hotmail.com to pre-approve
Meet Attendance – 5 points per day of meet
 3 points deducted for leaving early
 Travel meet (if applicable) does not count toward attendance or points
 Region Champs – 20 points over two days
 State Champs (individual event or relay participation) – 20 points over two days
Scoring at Meets – points earned from placement = varies
(Usually 60 points per meet is the most you can earn)
Captains' Practices – "Extra-credit" points can be earned from doing captain-run practices or activities if
approved by the coaching staff. These points will not count against any swimmer, just for them.
