Travel Advertisement Project
You are going to research the River Valley Civilization that I assign to you. You must use the textbook and the
internet for research. It is very important that you find as much information as possible, because you will be responsible
for teaching the class. You will take notes on the ESPN graphic organizer I gave you. Some useful sites are:

The civilization I will be researching is ______________________________________________.
This project is due on ______________________________________.
Each individual will create their own travel brochure based on your research. You are trying to inform you
audience, but also to convince them to visit your assigned civilization. Think about ways that you can make your
civilization appealing to your audience. On the last day of the project, you will be presenting to small groups.
You have many choices of how you can create your advertisement. Circle the presentation format you are
choosing. You may choose one of the following:





Prezi
PowerPoint
Photostory
A poster tri-fold (like a big brochure)
A science fair board
Regardless of format, all presentations must include the same information. You need a minimum of 1 picture
per section. All pictures need a caption explaining the picture. Use complete sentences.
First Section: Be creative, decorate, appropriate title, pictures. Grab your audience’s attention. (15 pts)
Second Section: Geography. On this page you need an ancient map, explain geographic features (3+), weather
and ancient clothing needed. (20 pts)
Third Section: Culture. Important ancient things to see: cities, religion, art, writing, buildings, temples (at least 2
buildings) with captions. (20 pts)
Fourth Section: Economics. Explain the economic system (ancient trade items, money and crops). (15 pts)
Fifth Section: Political. Describe the leaders and complex institutions (government, education, religious
institutions). (15 pts)

Sixth Section or Back: Name, period, date, and sources (the URL is fine). (5 pts)
Conventions/Special Instructions: Every side of your brochure (except the back) will have illustrations and color;
this may be computer generated or handmade, but must be neat and legible. Music can enhance the digital
presentations. Facts must be accurate. All grammar and spelling must be proofread. Brochure will be positive
and persuasive. (10 pts)
The entire project will consist of 3 grades. The major grade is for your presentation itself. A classwork grade will
be taken on your completed River Valley Civilization ESPN Graphic Organizer. The last classwork grade is your
presentation of the advertisement.
All digital presentations must be posted to edmodo before the class the project is due. The group names for
edmodo can be found on my webpage. All hard copy projects are due at the beginning of class as well. Each day the
project is late will result in a ten point deduction of the major grade.
