1. In Spanish discuss text messaging with students. When do they text message? Why?
Do text messages change how we use language? If so, what are these changes? Over
time, will text messaging change how we spell? If so, is this a good change? Is there a
situation in which it would be inappropiate to use text message language?
2. Review some of the conventions that Spanish text language follows:
·k y q are used in place of que,
·y is used in place of ll,
·vowels are often dropped,
·2 is written in place of –dos.

4. Now have students create their own text messages in Spanish. If school policy
permits student use of cell phones in class, have students text each other in Spanish.
