1. Open http://www.elmundo.es/tiempo/ and become familiar with the website and the
video before having students complete this activity.
2. Review with students vocabulary they might hear a weather forecaster use as he or she
shows a weather map. Students should know words indicating direction (nor, noroeste,
sud, este, etc.), geographical features (montañas, litoral, interior, península, etc.) and
weather conditions (despejado, chubasco, nubes y claros, etc.)
3. You will need smart board or some way to project the web site to the class or have the
class complete these activities in a computer lab. Open
http://www.elmundo.es/tiempo/
4. Click on the video icon in the Mapas menu which is in the upper right hand corner of
the large map. This can also be reached by going to
http://www.elmundo.es/tiempo/pronostico/69/34_28457_c.html. Click on the square in
the upper right hand corner of the video to play the video at full screen.
5. Play the video as many times as is necessary and have students fill in the chart on the
student page. Answers will vary.
6. Remind students that people do not listen intently to every word in a weather forecast.
Instead, people listen closely only when the weather person is talking about weather that
will affect them.
7 Have students prepare and present orally a three day weather report for the local
region. Depending upon the skill of your students, these presentations could be videorecorded and used as listening exercises for your other classes.
