Congratulations to Easton City: DCNR’s 2014 Green Park Award winner. Located in Northampton County, Easton used the natural features of the area to alleviate the severe impacts of runoff while trying to preserve the natural aesthetics of Sullivan Park. An urban park with a steep slope that extends south to the Bushkill Creek and east to the Delaware River, it contains continuously flowing natural springs that, along with severe runoff, subjected residents to flash flooding from moderate rainfalls. Since the establishment of the wetland in 2009 there has been no reported incident or sign of stormwater runoff, not even during Hurricane Sandy. Click here for more information on the project. DCNR Secretary Ellen Ferretti recognized Easton’s outstanding work at Sullivan Park with by the Green Park Award at the 2014 Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society Annual State Conference on March 25.
