Raincoat and/or raingear (Classes are NOT canceled due to rain; lightening is the only thing to cancel outdoor classes!)
Sweater/sweatshirt
Jacket (for evenings)
Combination of long sleeve/short sleeve t-shirts (at least 1 per day) (You will need clothes for mostly cool weather!)
Combination of long pants/shorts (at least 1 per day) - We will only need long pants this year.
Socks (3-5 pairs)
Closed toe shoes (at least 2 pair of sneakers – one to get wet/muddy, one to stay dry) If you only bring one pair of shoes,
you will get them wet/muddy and you will have to wear them everywhere! Yuck!
Sandals with a heel-strap *If you bring sandals like the ones below, then one pair of closed toed sneakers is okay. Closetoed shoes only outside the dorm. It will be too cold for sandals.
Hat/cap/visor (advisable due to the hot sun!)
Pajamas
Sleeping bag (or twin size bedding) A set of sheets and a sleeping bag for a blanket are a choice by many. Roll your towels
and sheets up in your sleeping bag to give extra room in your suitcase!
Pillow
Plastic bag for dirty cloths
Bath and/or beach towels and washcloths
Toiletries (soap, toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
Roll-on or lotion insect repellent (May not be needed due to season, but it’s better
safe than sorry!)
Sunscreen *Please purchase this EARLY and use at home to make sure you are not
allergic!!!!! You don’t want to get down there and have a reaction!!!!!
Water bottle (May not be needed due to season, but it’s better safe than sorry!)
No FLIP-FLOPS are allowed outside of dorm rooms! Sandals with a heel-strap are
allowed. You may want flip flops for the shower!

Day pack or backpack
Camera and/or film (disposable recommended for students)
Binoculars
Sunglasses
Rubber boots for marsh trip (Jekyll does provide boots, but some people prefer to bring their own.)
Money for canteen (Look at the list of canteen items to help determine how much your child will need – around $20.)
pencil and paper
cell phone: We follow HCB policy on the use of cell phones. Students may have them, but they must remain in the dorms and can only
be used at non-class times. Also, please note that cell phone reception on the island is spotty at best. Most cell phones do NOT work
once we get on the island!!! If your child has a phone, do NOT count on a good night call from them, or to them. This will stress your
child tremendously and cause a great flood of tears if they are expecting to talk to you and cannot due to poor reception!!!! There will be
no land lines available except in true emergency situations. We operate on the “No news is good news” philosophy.
You may have your child call you when we are an hour away if you wish. We will make an announcement on both buses as to when to
make the call. (Forsyth) *In this event, please let your homeroom teacher know your child has a phone so they can take you off the
calling list for Friday.

ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT –While we allow small, inexpensive CD players and MP3 players on the bus, bring these at your own
risk! If you choose to bring these items, you CANNOT have them out from the time we get to the Jekyll 4-H center until we leave.
NO, you cannot even listen to them in your room! Bring them at your own risk. Since there may be people there we don’t know, I
would not bring them. Since there are DVD players and Video players on the bus, you really don’t need your own electronics.
