THE UNIVERSITY
Lille1 University is a State University, founded in 1562 by the Spanish. It became
French in 1667. Louis PASTEUR was the first Dean of the Science Faculty in
1854. Lille University was, at that time, situated in the town centre. In 1971, the
Science Faculty and the different faculties in Lille moved to the new town of
Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Lille 1 is one of the leading science universities in France. Here you will be able to
learn how to sharpen your critical thinking, a fundamental element in developing
knowledge. You will also apprehend how to look at things from a different
perspective, both academically and socially. Furthermore, you will become part of
a particularly cosmopolitan French population situated less than 300 kilometers

THE CITY
Located in the heart of Northern Europe, Villeneuve d'Ascq has all the assets to
become a technological centre for Europe. The geographical location of the town
enables the exchange of students and ideas. Villeneuve d'Ascq is directly linked by
the VAL 'metro' to the high speed train of Lille, Villeneuve d'Ascq is a pleasant
town to live in and to study in. As far as leisure time is concerned, the town has
100 recreation centers, which offer its 43,000 students miscellaneous sporting
possibilities.

Finalize the application
After the application data has been
submitted online, please :
- print your application (a PDF-Document will be created after the online
submission. If you do not have access to a printer at this stage, you can save the
file and print your application later).
- the printed application form must be signed by you and the coordinator at your
institution.
- scan your signed application form and all required documents.

Your application will be examined and if accepted a letter of acceptance will be
posted to you.
Enclose required documents (except for double degree Chinese students)
The following documents must be enclosed with your application:
 the application form for accommodation if you wish to apply for a room in a
student residence,
 the Learning Agreement containing your planned course units in our
institution. The Learning Agreement may be modified after your arrival and
discussion with your academic coordinator. For all questions relating to
your Learning Agreement, please contact your faculty coordinator,
 the Transcripts of Records obtained in previous years of study.

Our institution offers accommodation in student halls of residence to exchange
students coming from our partner institutions. If you would like to apply for
accommodation please use the application form for accommodation and the
regulations form. Enclose these two forms, completed and signed, to your
application form.
