Puzzle Piece Mystery Book Project
This project will take the place of 3 STEWs. It will be due on Feb. 19, 2013
In addition to this project, students will be filling in a reading log
due each Monday.
Mystery stories are written puzzles made for a reader.
To complete this project, you will make an 18 piece puzzle that gives the
reader clues about the story you have read independently.
You will share this project with a small group of students in class.
Materials Needed:
Puzzle pieces (2 pages)
Colored pencils/markers
Large poster paper (I will supply)
1 Mystery Genre book from Challenger library (over 150 pages)
Procedure:
1. Number your pieces 1-18 in marker
2. Piece #1: creative display of title and author
3. Piece #2: heading
4. Piece #3: main character & personality traits
5. Piece #4: picture of the main character
6. Piece #5: secondary character & personality traits
7. Piece #6: picture of each secondary character
8. Piece #7: describe the setting
9. Piece #8: describe the problem
10. Piece #9, 10, 11: describe the main events that lead to the climax
11. Piece #12: climax
12. Piece #13: 3 clues relating to the problem of the book
13. Piece #14: give a hint about the solution (don’t tell, just hint)
14. Piece #15: give your rating of the book: How did you like it? Explain.
15. Piece #16-18: other pictures that relate to the story, include captions.
16. Arrange your pieces on the poster paper.
17. Prepare to share in a small group.
