The Student Engagement & Leadership Center (SELC) is delighted to invite Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to
join us in celebrating Homecoming 2015: Texas Style! The week is packed with enjoyable activities to give you a break
from the rigor of academia. If you have any questions or concerns leading up to the RSOlympics, or anything in general
with regards to Homecoming, please contact us:

Policy
1. Registration:
a. Entry Fee $40 per application, plus $20 per RSO in your Team (after the first RSO).
b. Registration for the RSOlympics is not complete until the SELC has received all RSOlympics registration
materials (application and fees) and your subtheme has been drawn.
i. All of the above must be turned in by Thursday, September 17, 2015 by 5PM.
ii. THE MINE TRACKER APPLICATION WILL NO LONGER BE ACCESSIBLE AFTER 12PM on Thursday,
September 17, 2015. No entries will be accepted after this time.
iii. The Homecoming RSOlympics registration form can only be accessed at minetracker.utep.edu
c. Only Registered Student Organizations are allowed to participate in the RSOlympics.
i. Exceptions to this are:
1. The Student Government Association (SGA) Pageant — open to any student with a valid
Miner Gold Card may join.
2. The Float-Making Party and Parade — reserved for Registered Student Organizations
and University partners.
ii. Student Organizations must be completely registered for the 2015-2016 school year before their
application will be accepted.
2. Payment:
a. No applications is final until the entry fee (cash, check, or UTEP account transfer only) has been paid.
b. All checks should be made payable to The Student Engagement & Leadership Center.
3. Teams:
a. In the spirit of Homecoming, and in order to accommodate smaller organizations, RSOs are allowed to
join forces with fellow Registered Student Organizations if they choose to, and participate in the
RSOlympics as one team.
b. Each team need only complete one Homecoming 2015 RSOlympics Application.
c. From hereon, “Team” will be used in place of “RSO/Team”.
d. To encourage more competition, Teams will be limited to 3 RSOs or less.
4. Subthemes
a. Each Team will draw a subtheme to go along with our Texas theme.
b. Each Team is expected to incorporate this subtheme all week in the form of performance and décor.
i. Failure to do so may result in loss of points for certain activities.
5. Rules
a. Sign-in will take place 30 minutes prior to the start time of each event.
b. Only registered UTEP students may participate in the RSOlympics.
c. A Team will be disqualified from all RSOlympics activities if there are any unregistered student members
participating in any competitions, except the float driver.
d. Drugs, weapons, and/or alcohol may not be present at any RSOlympics event. If any participant or

member affiliated with the Team arrives with drugs/alcohol and/or is intoxicated, the entire Team will
be disqualified for the remainder of Homecoming, and the individual(s) and Team will be referred to the
Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.
e. Participants are responsible for showing up to events on time.
i. No event will be delayed due to tardiness; please be there 30 minutes before the start time to
sign in, for each event.
ii. If a Team cannot sign in on time, the group risks suffering a point reduction due to nonparticipation
f. Have fun, but be respectful! Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated at all, and the RSOlympics
committee reserves the right to disqualify any team for any behavior deemed to be unsportsmanlike.
g. Direct any discrepancies regarding the RSOlympics in writing to Corey Bailey at cmbailey@utep.edu
within 24 hours of the act. Verbal complaints will either be ignored or deemed unsportsmanlike. All
decisions are made with the “Spirit of Homecoming” in mind, and a majority decision of the RSOlympics
Committee is necessary to deliver a decision.
6. Conduct
a. At the discretion of the RSOlympics Committee, any Team found responsible for committing a
disqualifying offense may be removed from an event, or the RSOlympics entirely.
i. Disqualification from an event will result in a 25-point deduction.
ii. Two event DQs may disqualify the Team from the RSOlympics entirely.
iii. Actions that may warrant disqualification include, but are not limited to: excessive swearing,
complaining about decisions, harassment of other Teams or the RSOlympics Committee
members, obscene gestures, cheating, attempting to cheat, lying (through direct statement or
omission of information), deceiving or attempting to deceive officials or other competitors, any
unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting, arguing, fighting, spitting, etc.), alcohol/drug possession
and/or consumption.
1. Points will only be taken away from Teams for violations of the RSOlympics rules as
outlined in this document; these point deductions cannot be given to any Team for
reasons other than those listed.
2. The following infractions will result in the listed loss of points:
a. Fighting

b. Alcohol/drug Infractions
- 65
c. Cheating/attempting to cheat
- 65
d. Verbal abuse
- 50
e. Disqualification from any event
- 25
f. Non-participation
- 25
7. Results
a. Top Teams will be announced at the Homecoming Pep Rally.
b. Final scores will be released after the Homecoming game on Saturday, October 3.

Support & Spirit Points
All Teams participating in the RSOlympics can earn support points for each event they attend by including UTEP students
to attend, regardless of their membership within the organization, or participation in the event (not including Penny
Wars, Float-Making Party, the Homecoming Parade, Pep Rally or Football game) (capped at 100%). A breakdown of
required attendance and points are listed below.

Spirit Points
Your Team can also earn extra points if those Miners that sign in are dressed in attire that fits the day’s spirit theme. All
costumes are subject to approval by the RSOlympics Committee staff monitoring the particular event. See below for the
breakdown.

Penny Wars

Penny Wars is a friendly competition wherein each Team will compete to raise money to sponsor members of student
organizations to attend events such as UTEP LIVE & SOLR. Each Team will be given a container. The goal is to be the
Team with the highest point total. Each Team will earn or lose points based off of the following coin amounts:
o Nickels
5 point
o Dimes
10 points
o Quarters
25 points
o Pennies
-1 point
 Attempting to remove coins from any container, disrupting others from placing coins in a container, or tipping
over/dumping the contents from any containers will result in disqualification.
 Coins in rolls will not be accepted; please remove all coins from rolls before inserting into containers.
 Only one Team may enter at a time
o Only two members of a Team may enter a time.
 Containers will open at 8:00AM Monday through Wednesday and will close at 5:00 PM on Monday and Tuesday,
and 10:00 AM on Wednesday.
 No students may loiter in the area.

Texas Trivia
Date: Monday, September 28

Participant Limit: Four Students per Team

Teams will compete in a double-elimination bracket style tournament.
Two Teams will participate per match.
Team order will be determined at random.
Each round begins with the host asking a trivia question to the team selected first in the bracket.
The Team that is asked the question will have 30 seconds to deliberate and give their answer.
o If it is correct, the Team will receive 2 points.
o If it is incorrect the opposing Team will have 10 seconds to deliberate and give their answer.
 If it is correct, that Team will receive 1 point.
 Questions will be asked in alternating sequence.
 The first Team to earn 10 points will win the round.

2nd Place: 30 Points
3rd Place: 25 Points

Teams will compete in a dance off.
All Teams will dance at the same time.
A panel of judges will evaluate Teams on performance of the line dance.
At the end of each dance, judges will cast out any Team that is not performing the line dance properly.
o If one Team member is eliminated, then the rest of the team is automatically out of the competition.
 Teams that advance to the final round will be required to perform their own line dance.
 The panel of judges will grade the Team’s line dance on the following criteria:
o Originality
o Creativity
o Visual Appeal
o Crowd Response

 Important Dates

o Thursday, 9/24 – 5PM: At the RSOlympics Opening Ceremony, Teams will be informed if their entire
song list was accepted or if changes need to be made.
o Sunday, 9/27 – 5PM: Final lists and audio file in .mp3 or .mp4 format must be emailed to
fandrade2@utep.edu with songs listed in body of email (not attached).
o Monday, 9/28 – 5PM: Teams will be notified if they are all clear or if changes are needed.
o Wednesday, 9/30 – 12PM: Teams will be chosen to perform at random.
 Rules
o Only one song list per Team will be accepted.
o The RSOlympics Committee will try our best to not allow any songs to be duplicated; thus, songs will be
accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
o Vulgar language and/or obscene gestures will not be tolerated and will lead to disqualification. Any
music with inappropriate words will NOT be accepted.
o Teams will have a total of seven minutes, which includes performance, set-up and breakdown.
Exceeding this time limit will result in point deduction or disqualification.
o Each Team is responsible for the immediate disposal of anything left on or around the performance
area. If the stage is left a mess, your Team will be disqualified.
o A panel of judges will grade Teams on the following criteria:

 Crowd Response
 Adherence to Subtheme

Float-Making Party
Date: Friday, October 2
Sign-In Time: No Sign-In
Start Time: 6:00PM
Location: University Towers Parking Lot
Participation Limit: All students in the Team
Support Points: No

No trailers allowed.
Your vehicle must be present no later than 6:30PM
o Late arrivals may result in disqualification.
Your vehicle must approach from University Avenue.
o Do not approach from Schuster Avenue; you will not be allowed in.
All floats must be assembled during this event.
No drugs, alcohol, weapons or pets are permitted at the float-making party.
Your team will be charged if spray paint or other permanent marks are left on the concrete.
There is limited access to power, so please charge any power tools prior to this event.
Security will remain with the floats all night.
Points will be deducted if an organization’s area is not cleaned entirely by 12:30AM.

Homecoming Parade
Date: Saturday, October 3
Sign-In Time: No Sign-In
Start Time: 9:00AM
Location: Beginning from University Towers Parking Lot
Participation Limit: Unlimited

10:30 AM: Preparations. Ensure your float is still in one piece.
12:00 PM: Last call. Drivers must be present by this time.
12:30 PM: Line-up˘. Walkers must be present by this time.
Floats arriving on Friday will NOT be allowed to participate in the parade at all!
1:00 PM: Start time (Parade Kick-Off)
Teams are prohibited from throwing/launching anything from their vehicle.
Float & Parade Regulations
Safety & Design
 Maximum dimensions: height 14’ width 14’ and length 20’.
 If your float does not pass a safety inspection (performed on site) your Team will not be allowed to participate.
 No smoking on or near floats.
 No animals or pets are allowed in the parade.
 Vehicles and trailers must be road safe, & the driver must have a valid driver’s license & insurance.
 No one may get off or on vehicle/float during parade. You are not allowed to stop during the parade.
 Float riders must have a means of support whether it is a railing, back support, or seat belt. No one is allowed to
sit or stand on the front/hood/top of vehicle/float during the parade.
 Entries must be viewable for all age groups. Any entries deemed inappropriate by the RSOlympics Committee may
not be allowed to participate in the parade.
 Floats or vehicles should clearly state the Team name on both sides.
 Decorations must be secured to the float.
 Music must be appropriate for all ages.
 Design must allow for quick exit for all passengers on the vehicle.
 Tires, wheels and brake system must work properly and be able to perform normal driving functions.
 Exhaust system must be free of cracks, extend 12” beyond exterior of float and not touch float.
 Muffler must be clear of running gear. Must shield muffler if near combustible objects.
 Gas tank should be load-free of decorations.
 Electrical system should be for automotive use only. Circuits above 30 volts must be ungrounded.
 A fire extinguisher should be on all floats. Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) may provide one upon request.
 The driver’s view must not be impeded. The driver should also have two ways to exit vehicle.
 Ventilation must be provided for possible exhaust leaks.
 All decorations must be fire retardant.
Afterwards
 After the parade, you will stage your float in Miner Alley for community judging.
 The float must stay there until after halftime of the UTEP vs UTSA game.
 The float must leave by 10PM.
 It is your responsibility to disassemble your float and place remains in the proper disposal areas.
